Hi everyone:

My questions:

1. How shall we count days of absence if I went to the US and come back the same day?

2. How shall we count days of absence for an overseas trip for both arrival and departure? Shall we count for only 1 day?

Thanks!

Use the online calculator.. for entering departure and arrival I dont see a problem.. the online calculator will count one of them as an absence day ... so if you enter departure day from canada and departure day back to canada ... one of them will not count .. they designed it to avoid stamp confusion at country you departure from and CBSA arrival stamp :)

Yu are not required to declare one day absence. If went to US @ 10 am and came back at 11 PM that means you spent the night in Canada so you were not absent for the whole day.
Same rule apply for overseas trips. If you fly from Canada to France on Feb 15 @ 11:55PM that means you were not in Canada that day so it's an absence when you come back on Feb 20th and land @ 11:45 PM that means you are in Canada on that day so you were absent for 5 days.
Just use the online calculator and put the exact days you leave and come back. Do not rely on arrival stamps at the destination because when you leave Canada heading east usually you arrive the next day or 2 days later.
