Hello everybody,

I previously had a U.S. visa in my old passport. However, after seeking asylum in Canada, I believe my visa was canceled. I tried to confirm this with the consulate where I obtained my visa, but they never responded to me. My visa is most likely canceled, but I never received an email confirming it.
Regardless, even if my visa is still valid, I know that I cannot travel with my home country’s passport since I have applied for asylum in Canada. That’s why I applied for a Canada Travel Document.
My concern is that applying for a new U.S. visa with a Canada Travel Document and getting a visa appointment shows a waiting time until late 2027. By that time, I will likely already be a Canadian citizen. However, I want to travel to the U.S. this fall.
So, since I had a previous U.S. visa, am I eligible for a visa interview waiver?
If I were able to travel with my original passport, my visa would still be valid until July 2028. But since I can only travel with a Canada Travel Document, I need to apply for a new U.S. visa.
Does the system determine whether I qualify for an interview waiver after submitting the DS-160 form, or does this only become clear after paying the visa fee? Because if I have to wait two years for an appointment, paying the fee is pointless.
However, if I can be scheduled for an earlier interview or qualify for an interview waiver, then I want to proceed with the application accordingly.

Frankly, I am skeptical about whether to wait for the interview or not, as I had a visa from a different country before and will now apply for a visa with a different document and and maybe because my visa was cancelled i do not know.
I emailed the consulate where I obtained my visa. In addition, I also contacted the U.S. consulates in Canada. However, the U.S. consulates in Canada said they could not find any record of my visa in their system.
I am not sure if the lack of a record means that my visa has been canceled.

There anyone who has gained experience like me?
I hope you can respond to my message and assist me.
Thank you

There have been cases where interview has been waived whether that will be the case under new administration is unclear. All you can do is apply and see. You can monitor for cancelled interviews to attempt to get an earlier appointment. Do not book any travel until you have the visa.

I totally understand that but this wasn't the answer to my question.

I answered your questions. Apply and see if you require an interview or not and US will also tell you if you still have a valid visa if you attempt to apply for another one. There is no way to determine beforehand if you will require an interview.

What I want to know is, when I sumbit the DS 160 form, does it tell me before I make the payment? (Is there a need for an interview or is there one?) Because if they are going to give me an appointment after 2 years, I don't want to pay $185. I will apply for citizenship after 1 year anyway. So what I want to know is, can I find out this after making the payment or before making it? As i say before in my previous post ‘’ Does the system determine whether I qualify for an interview waiver after submitting the DS-160 form, or does this only become clear after paying the visa fee? Because if I have to wait two years for an appointment, paying the fee is pointless.

You need to pay to find out. Also no gaurantee you can secure an earlier interview if needed. Really depends on how dedicated you are in watching the website.
