Sorry if this is in wrong thread, please move it.

So apprently, as of 30 days ago there is a law that states that if you travel to Iraq from Canada, the name on your Canadian Passport must match the name on your Iraqi Passport. They deied my mom from flying yesterday.

On my Canadian Passort right now it says: Bob Greely (example first and last name)

On my Iraqi passort now it says Bob Marley Alex Alex (middle name would be Marley Alex, and they repeat Alex again as last time as most iraqi documentation does not have last).

So I want to update my canadian passport to say Bob Marlex Alex Greely (including my middle name)

I called Service Canada and also went to my local Passport Canada / Service Canada, and they said in order to add middle name, I need to provide Citizenship or Provencial Legal Name change document with the middle name

Requesting a new citizenship takes 3 months

Provencial Legal name change is 13 weeks right now

I am flying out in Mid-June, about 10 weeks, both of these would take too long before I travel.

Any ideas anyone? i really need help please.

Whose law is this?

For anyone to understand this, you have to specify which are given names and which are last names. There is no 'middle name' by law here, that's just a colloquial term.

Eg Given name Bob, Family name Marley Alex Alex is VERY different from
Given names Bob Marley Alex, Family Name Alex

The reason being that in SOME contexts a missing or not included given name after the first given name is not a big deal.

Fly to some neighbouring country and cross by land border.

Lol no, not an option.

apprently it was introduced by Iraq a month ago?

I was told by freinds and travel agency if i show my canadian passport and iraqi ID instead of iraqi passport. Its more likley to go through with no issues. Also possibly the travel agency said could have been a one-off and my mom was unlocky to get that agent lol.

i have been travelling to iraq once a year for the last 6+ years with my middle name not bon my Canadian passport not being an issue at all!

It's fairly common for Canada to drop middle (that is, second and third given) names from passport. That is not considered that significant an issue.

I'm surprised they had an issue with you wanting to change Canadian passport by adding middle (given) names, but I don't know current procedures that well.

I meant a new citizenship with middle name added
I think you mean a new citizenship certificate.

This would be wasting time, though: you can apply for a new passport (w/o the citizenship certificate) on basis of whatever other documents they'll accept / require (eg old passport) with the change-of-name legal docs. And a passport can be done in 1-30 days, one day urgent more expensive and they may require proof of travel.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/change-name.html#adults

I believe they usually also require another doc showing the new name is used - but a driver's license can be done in most provinces in a couple of hours. (You won't have the new laminated one right away in Ontario, but the temporary is a valid driver's license and should be accepted).

There, I saved you three months or so.

[In theory you can get the citizenship certificate swapped out for a new one - or just don't ever bother if you don't like, the change of name docs will be sufficient with others for all purposes.]

you cant change name on drivers licence unless it matches a legal name change request. Once im back from travel. I’ll do it
