Hi , I apologize before hand because I have so many doubts in my head and I don't wanna make a mistake.

I recently got married here in Canada, my husband is canadian and I'm under a visitor visa entry. My status expires at the end of this month.

I read here on the forums more than once than I should apply for PR right away, but we haven't yet , the reason we didn't is because I requested an extension first, since we were waiting for our marriage certificate and my status expires soon. In that extension I specified that we got married and intend to apply for PR once we get the marriage certificate, so we submitted proofs of our marriage and I asked for 12 months extension.

Now we already have the marriage certificate and could apply for PR and OWP. So I'm wondering is there a negative impact if we don't apply as soon as we can for sponsor? Or can I wait for my extension request to be answered first? If I have a month left of status here in Canada, do I still have time to submit a PR application or it doesn't matter?

I'm kinda scared to be making the wrong choices no matter what.. I've been fully honest on everything I said but I'm not sure my case is a good reason for extension approval or refusal..

I should add that my husband thinks we should wait, because he's in the military and he's about to get promoted so to him that feels like a better profile for sponsoring me since I cant work

Thanks for any help

You can wait for a decision on your extension if you want, there's no rush
As long as you still have status in Canada, you're fine.

Thanks for answering , do you think my extension request will be approved? As in is it common?

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be approved. That's not to say that there isn't one, but I think you'll be fine.

If you're worried it will get rejected, then file your PR/OWP application before your status runs out, because then you'll have implied status from the OWP if your extension is denied. You dont really have a reason to worry, but at least you know that's an option.

What jnicole 45 said. Very common for extensions to be approved. What is your nationality / are you visa exempt?

Note that a PR application, in itself, provides no status. Only the parallel application for the OWP provides "implied status".
Your husband's job profile is completely irrelevant to his ability to sponsor, as long as the fundamental ability to support you is covered.
IMHO, you should get a "Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class" + OWP application submitted as soon as possible, certainly before you risk being out of status.

Thank you all for your kind replies, I'm from Argentina not visa exempt. Can I still submit a PR/OWP app when my status expires on Sept 29th?

Yes, but why wait.

Because I'm not sure how log it will take us to gather all the documents, and I dont know if there's a time needed to apply before status expiring, like extension is advised a month before.. also I was told my PR application could be returned for missing things like a signature so i was adviced to get the extension first to maintain status.. so if I wanted to send our package say like 2 weeks before my status expires, could I do that?

Of course you can. Yes very important not to miss anything.

There is no point in delaying the PR app. Having approval of the extension app makes zero difference to the PR app. You gain nothing by waiting except a delay in becoming a PR.

Your husband's promotion also doesn't matter.

Yes we gonna try to gather everything and send it asap in a week or two tops.
Hopefully there won't be any issues

Yes, but you will end up with the OWP being seriously delayed if you are already out of status when you apply for it.

Yes I'll try to submit for PR as soon as I can but I got no choice less than a month till my entry expires although I guess I will still be in implied status from the extension request right? Those things confuse me
