I have a question regarding languages. :)

My love is from Brazil, we correspond in English, French and Portuguese as well.

So for proof of relationship, such as letter, cards, emails... letters from family members, for example my mother would write a letter about our relationship in French, and her mother for sure would only write hers in Portuguese only. Is that a problem? Or can I assume because the Visa office that will be processing the application is in São Paulo Brazil, then it is fine.

Or should correspondence that is in Portuguese be translated. I am assuming that I do not need to translate the French, even if most of the application is done in English. Is that correct?

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Hi!

I read somewhere that Brazil VO accepts some documents in Portuguese. However, I would go on the safe side and send a translation to French or English of all proofs that are in Portuguese. You should always include a copy of the original written in Portuguese attached to the translation. Translations of proofs of relationship do not need to be done by a certified translator, you can do it yourself.
The French letter is perfectly fine, even if your application was filled up in English, you can send it as it is :)

Hope this helps!

Being Canada a bilingual country with an Embassy in a Portuguese speaking country I would assume that any of the 3 languages would be accepted without translation, I may be wrong.
Check it out, email them asking about it!

ps: Brasileiro aqui tambem! Where in Brazil does your partner live? :)
