Hello everyone!
Im kinda new here in this forum and this is my first post, so if anyone can help me I would very much appreciate your time and effort in answering mu querries. :)

Recently, our family friend called me up (he sponsored my application for MPNP) and said that my approval letter had just arrived and that he will send it to me by mail so that I would be able to process my application for my PR Visa, which is due on June 20, 2014. I would like yo ask if I would marry my boyfriend after I obtain my PR Visa, will I be able to sponsor him faster to get to Canada too? Or should i get married before I pass my documents and inform CIC about the change in my marital status? Because I was thinking that if I were to be in Canada by the time I sponsor him as my partner, we may have a difficult time or longer processing time.
Which do you think is the best I can do? By the way, we've been together for 7 years already and I 'm only 23 years old so I need to think and plans things first before I make a move.

Thank you ao much for your help! :)

When you say "we've been together for 7 years already", what exactly do you mean? Have you lived together as a couple for at least a year?

Hello zardoz! Well, what I meant was that we've been "in a relationship" for seven years and since it's not customary here in the Philippines to live together until you get married (my family is very conservative and traditional by the way), we haven't been living together in one roof. So, we're just seeing each other.

No problem. Just didn't want to see you fall into the trap of an undeclared relationship.

Whichever route you decide on, it seems that marriage is going to be a factor.

You may find that marrying before your PR application is complete might be faster, by having him added to your application. That way, the processing is done in parallel instead of serially.

I'll have to let those that know more about the PNP process comment further.

Good luck with whichever path you choose.

Oh, I see. How about if I take the other option? The one where I have to be in Canada first then sponsor him after? (Without marrying him before I leave) Would there be any problems if I were to sponsor him that way? Because my friends said it's more practical if we get married before I leave if I were to sponsor him anyway. But then there's still the question of whether I'm ready or not. Still having some doubts about the idea mainly because of my family.lol I don't know how will they react (knowing they're traditional and all)
Thank you very much zardoz for your reply!

If you marry before you land as a PR in Canada, he must be added to your application before you land.
If you marry after becoming a PR, then normal spousal sponsorship rules and procedures apply. The time for an application to be approved will depend on your circumstances and whether you apply inland or outland.

Wow... Talk about getting complicated.

If you are both applying for PR, and then you marry before either of you lands as a PR, you will need to add each other to your own PR applications. The clash of PNP provinces is potentially going to cause some red flags. Is it possible to delay marriage until you both complete the PR process?

There may be other issues that I haven't thought of.

Tnx for the reply.. im actually eager to find someone i could talk about it..ireally appreaciate it^^

Yeah it is complicated indeed.. i dnt think we could delay the wedding.. bec all the preparations are already being made.. the thing that really concerns me is the two of us being in diff province,.. and im oblige to stay in manitoba for the pnp thing.. we dnt mind settling there.. is it wise if i ask my fiance not to file her pr application and wait for mine instead? Coz my application would come faster i think..
Wat worries me is if the mpnp learns that shes in alberta curently working there.. how will it affect my application? Is it possible that they will refuse me?

If you are definitely going to get married, it would make much more sense for you to add her to your application as soon as you are married. Obviously you can't add her beforehand UNLESS you have already lived together as a couple for at least a continuous year, in which you would already be considered common-law for immigration purposes. (I assume that this is not the case however).

A single application where there is a high likelihood of success, would in my opinion, be better than two competing applications, especially because of the Manitoba issue.

Your biggest problem seems to me to be timing, nothing more. There is a little time window between you getting your PR visa, then getting married, before you land as a PR, that might be "interesting".

I understand what you were trying to tell me^^ this is what i think also..

If we were to delay the wedding.. and lets say im already in manitoba.. lets say maybe 6 months after landing to manitoba i go back home to get married.. will that be ok? I mean with the manitoba provice issue.. about her being there in alberta..?

On the other hand, you could both settle in Manitoba after marriage.

Oh, another question, if I were to sponsor my boyfriend after I get my PR through outland sponsorship, what are the possible steps to take? Because I read about the family sponsorship guide in the CIC website and it stated that one of the things the sponsor should consider is that he/she is in Canada and is able to support his/her partner. Can it be possible to sponsor him before landing? Or I should really get married first so it won't be that complicated?
Thanks again :)
