I met a Filipino nurse family (both husband & wife) who landed in Quebec recently with PR via CSQ. They said they have to write some exam in French and go back to school in Quebec which will take 5 years of learning in order for them to practice nursing.( not my field, so I do not know what exams and school they have to go, but I remember them telling they have to relearn Algebra !! )
They found a minimum wage job in an elderly care and finding it hard to pay rent. Their two teenage kids are going to a "welcome" school to learn French for an year or so, after which they will be admitted to normal French classes. Their kids find it very difficult & they are scared because once the welcome school is over, their entire lessons will be in French. Non French speaking parents will not be able to help them with their homework. Maybe you can teach them in your language and then the kids can translate to French.
The Filipino family said they will soon move out of Quebec, because of the above reasons. They are just staying here to prove that they tried to settle in Quebec and failed. Do your kids a favor, if you have grown up kids, please move out of Quebec for them to have a happy stress free school life.
Nurses should refer this site for their eligibility to practice in Quebec
http://www.oiiq.org (French only, so there is that)
A post with some discussions about being Nurses in Quebec, not conclusive.
