Dear Experts,

I have the following question if you can please help:

* If wife and underaged kid decided to stay at home country, and the principal applicant (husband) went to canada and stayed for the required period (3 years): will he get the citizenship? will the underaged kid get the citizenship although he didnt stay in canada? what about the wife?

Thanks

1. Yes
2. No
3. No

Well here is my take :)

If they dont enter in due time (as mentioned on the visa on your passport), they loose their PR.

You enter Canada as Principal Applicant, you will get PR....and later after 3-4 Years you will get Citizenship.

Anyways, option for your family would be, that once they loose PR, later you will apply for their PR (even when you are as PR or Citizen) in the family stream. They will go through the entire process, of applying, medicals, fees, Police Clearance (for adults) etc etc.. You know the drill....

And the kid once has PR, will land in Canada, and if you are Citizen, you can immediately apply for his passport. Their is no waiting period for kids under 18.

O by the way, I am NOT an expert :) (as per your subject line)

There's a cumulative number of days of stay in Canada required for you to gain citizenship. Why apply if you have no intentions of staying.

Let me rephrase the question.

Let's say the wife and kid did make initial landing and got PR for 5 years with the husband, and then wife and kid returned to home country.

After 3 years husband gets citizenship.
Can underaged kid have citizenship from his father immidiatly as you stated although he did not stay in canada the required time?
Can wife renew PR taking into account her husband is citizen? or would she lose PR after 5 years and needs to reapply as family category?

Thanks

Your wife and child needs to stay in canada for 3 yrs in a 4 yr period to get citizenship and to continue with being a pr they need to reside 2 yrs in that 5 yr period to maintain pr status or else they will be deported back to base.

They will not have immediate Citizenship, you will have to take them through the Permanent Resident (Family Stream) path again, like I said, Medicals, Fees, the whole nine yards.

WHEN they land in Canada, you can apply for kid for Citizenship (provided you have it) and wife will complete her PR / Citizenship formalities independently of anyone.
