A question about checking your status online

Hi, really basic question here.

When I search for our file status online I always start from "Which category did you apply for" and then click "Sponsorship" and use my (sponsor's) info to log-in.

I answer the questions, put in the UCI number and I can see that the application was received on such and such date, sponsorship was approved, medical results were received and that's it.

But sponsorship was approved a long time ago, and I am using my (sponsor's) birthday to log-in.
I cannot search for anything using my wife's (applicant's) birth date. If I select "Application from outside" or "Application from inside" from the starting screen again there is no choice anywhere for "Family".

So just to confirm, for us Family Class applicants, one must always check via the "Sponsorship" selection of the first menu using the sponsor's birth date? Even after sponsorship is approved there is no way to search the file status from the applicant's info?

you checked right selection - sponsorship, outside or inside.

You need to put your wife's UCI no. or another identification no. from CIC , then her last name same as application, birth date, and country.
it usually shows that they received applications on dd.mm.yr date and medical received then it will stay like that for a loooong time.

My status has not been updated for 16 month then recently changed after I was requested for re medical.

If I check "Permanent Residence Outside Canada", on the next screen there is no spousal option.
All the spousal options seem to be from the Sponsorship option only.

Select Sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada.

Agree to terms.

Enter your wife's UCI, name, DOB and place of birth.

Everything is accessed through my info it seems.

I guess the applicant themselves isn't meant to use the service?

You ( The principal aplicant) can use the info on ECAS.
Sponsorship
Sponsoring a spouse outside canada
Agree with the terms.

Application number: F000 etc.
your own last name
Your own date of birth
Select country,
And you should get into ECAS.

Doesn't work with my wife's information.

I guess this is only for sponsors to use and/or applicants must check their status with their sponsor's info.

I can check with both my information and my wife's information. I go through the same screen each time (Sponsorship).

Some people have had some issues, due to the place of birth tripping them up. For example, some Russians will have to enter USSR as their place of birth, while others enter Russia, even though they were born in the USSR. My wife was born when it was still the Soviet Union, but I enter Russia as her place of birth. It took me a while to get it to work.

Here is something that might help you.

When using the "File Number" CIC gave me, I cannot use my information (Sponsor), it says it is not found. My UCI works. However if I use my wife's birthday, etc with the file number, her ECAS pops up (same as if I used her UCI).

Try using the file number and not the UCI to get in with your partner's information.

Also, if you were made a representative, you should see both status's in your ECAS (I see my sponsorship status and my wife's application status in my ECAS).

I have my sponsorship approval letter with UCI, my receipt number, but I don't know her file number.

It would be on your SA letter. It starts with F000.

Indeed it was the F000*** number.
The receipt and UCI numbers did not work with my wife's birthdate and country but the file number finally did.
I don't know why I didn't try it, I think its because it's called the "Application" on the SA letter and I didn't realize we had a file number.

Sadly the information is the exact same as when I log in with my information so, we are linked to the same file and there is no new info.
At least my mind is at peace. Still need more info. so its time for a GCMS notes request!
