A Little Complicated..PLEASE HELP

I know that I will be applying at the port of entry rather than sending all of my papers away and I know everything that I will need. I am just scared of what to say so that I am able to prove to the immigration officer/border agent that I am doing everything the right way.

Note that WP refusals are from countries where there are limited job opportunities. You are from the US! Maybe not as lucrative to work there as it used to be but it's still not that bad. Worried what to say? Just be honest. Let them know that you wanted to start work ASAP and since you have the LMO and medicals done would like to take the privilege being given to citizens who does not need visa to enter Canada. Do not give more information than asked for. Keep it (answers) short and simple. Would save you time if you accomplish the application form before you get to the POE.

So in your honest opinion, do you think that I should be okay?
I have a couple other questions...

1. My boyfriend has a car that I would be able to drive so I am considering not taking my own car there. We have been talking about him coming to pick me up and take me back up to Canada if and when we get all of the papers through. Do you think that him driving me would cause issues? I just don't want to have to take my car because all it would be doing is sitting and taking up space there and I also am not comfortable driving the long distance by myself when it will be snowy and icy.

2. A lot of the reason we want me to have the visa is because we could potentially be engaged and married while I am there. We have talked about it and I know that the spouse is still not able to work for a longer period of time until their pr goes through and the husband would have to support them. I don't like that idea hence trying to get the visa so that I am able to have employment ties in Canada. Is that something worth mentioning to the border agents as well or no?

Well, I wouldn't mention anything about getting married, as that will create red flags in the minds of the BSOs. You could also fly or take a bus across as well, but I don't see any reason why driving across with your BF will cause a problem. Again, you aren't a high risk candidate, you have all the paperwork for a work permit, etc. The most dangerous thing for you is your own nervousness - BSOs will notice that. So you need to convince yourself that you're doing everything by the book, so you're confident and can answer their questions. Then you won't have any problems.

Ok thank you. But I am a generally nervous person..why do they take interest in that?
Also, they usually ask the question of "Why did you get hired and not a Canadian?" or "Why do you want to be in Canada?" all of the answers that I have for that I feel may not be what they are looking for..I never know what to say in that aspect.

"I suppose that's because no Canadian as qualified as I am for the job applied" and "Because I think it's an amazing country with fantastic people. Plus, I found a great job here and it gives me an opportunity to experience another culture, one similar to mine so it won't be too much of a shock."

Think about answers to those questions that are true but don't telegraph things they might wish to ask about.

Only if it helps establish your qualifications for the position. I didn't include one in my applications either time (one at the border, the other one via Vegreville - still pending, admittedly, and hopefully moot by the time they get to it next month.)

Makes sense. I hope that I do not have to include one. I am of course qualified for the job I just don't have a full resume for that position. I have not been able to make a full time job out of nannnying due to the fact that there are very little families in my area that are looking for nannies that would be able to pay me enough to make a living. This is one of the main reasons I want to be in Canada as well..I will be able to actually have a job that pays me enough to not be living paycheck-paycheck

Well, now you've given a very clear lucid reason why you want to work in Canada - THAT is what to tell the BSO if she or he asks.

You shouldn't run into trouble. Do you have any ties to the US? Family? Friends?

I am a citizen. Born and raised..so yes family, friends, all of that. I just don't own any land or have a business or anything of that sort.

So you have significant ties. Again, you don't raise a red flag here.

I guess I am just mainly worried because my passport is flagged and am just trying to make sure I have all of my facts straight and everything in line for when it comes time for everything to go through.
