We got a letter today from the CIC.

This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2012/11/26 on behalf of the following member(s):

What does this mean? Does it mean that they start to process our app? and after this, how long does it normally take to get the approval? Christmas is aroud the corner. I guess it will take longer. Thanks.

We did outland. I think this this just a notification before the actual AOR.

No, that's the actual AOR. They're acknowledging that they have received your application.

First stage takes around 39 days (from November 26th) and the second stage will depend on your visa office.
