after taking the test and having achieved 20/20 I thought I can give few tips for future test takers and maybe other guys can add some more.
PREPARATION
- while practicing online, any question that I got wrong, I used to copy( the question and the 4 options) and paste in a word document. I ended up with a list of questions I didn't answer correctly and that was my focus 2 days before the test. At the end I was able to answer all questions.
-about 50% of the questions can be answered without reading the book( I'm not telling you here no need to reed it) and just common sense or what you know already about Canada.
- I saw in this forum someone telling people to memorise the names of persons on all dollar bills and the symbols on all coins. Wrong. you re not required to be a Canadian encyclopedia. All you need to learn about Canada is what is included in the book Discover Canada.
TEST DAY (few things to know to minimise the stress on that day)
On the answer sheet you write your Family name and check all the letters underneath like this
KAMAL
A A A A A A A
B B B B B B B
C C C C C C C
D D D D D D D
E E E E E E E
F F F F F F F
G G G G G G G
H H H H H H H
I I I I I I I
J J J J J J J
K K K K K K K
L L L L L L L
M M M M M M M

- They will also show you the ID number to write likewise.
- No watches allowed. Phones must be turned off. Family members cannot sit next to each other.
- Don't try to be smart and leave the room after 3 mn. Yes I finished early but I took my time to review all my answers. I noticed when I was practicing that I failed some questions not because I didn't know the correct answer but because I didn't pay attention, so taking few extra minutes to review your answers is a good idea.
-they will keep the first page of your notice to appear. so make sure you make a copy for yourself if you need it(I didn't cause nobody told me before)
MISSISSAUGA.
- If your test is in Mississauga @ 7:45 and if you get there too early like me(was there at 6:45) be ready to stay in the cold maybe snow or rain for about 30 minutes. No shelter at all outside( if you're driving or have a ride no issue then). By the way, if you're taking the bus from Islington do not take 1C make sure you take # 1
INTERVIEW.
First of all, the agent was super nice and polite. He makes you feel at ease.
In spite of all the fuss about bringing copies of bio pages of passport, the agent didn't bother to ask to see them. He asked for my DL+Health Card+ PR card ,passports and landing paper. I put the 3 ID's on the desk but all he checked was the landing paper and mostly the passport, every single page. He may have looked at the ID's on the desk but didn't touch them. He said he needed few seconds to review my file first, which he did and then asked few questions about where I work, my travels where do other family members live. Another question you need to be prepared for: WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO CANADA ? I answered in 2 or 3 words then asked me to elaborate. Answers like "because I love Canada" or " because there are more opportunities in here" are not enough !!
At the end he said he doesn't have any issue with my file and my English is good so I can expect an oath notice in the mail in about a month. while asking questions he was putting check marks in the form he had.
Left the building at about 10:00 am, it took me 2 hours 20 mn to get home and had to go to work at 2:45.
No oath letter given on the spot to anybody
Hope you will benefit from my experience.
