A few simple questions before sending the app

Hello guys.

Our application got returned because of a birth certificate that was improperly certified. We got the right documents and we are about to send it back. I have a few questions.

1. Should we sign the forms again with the current date? Or is it fine to use the old ones? They were signed in the middle of February.
2. Are they expecting us to have a Notice of Assessment for the tax year 2016? Because it's until the end of April to submit tax return and it would take even longer to get the Notice of Assessment for that year. I'm sure they understand that? They did not have a problem with the NoA that we had, only the PA's birth certificate section was highlighted, but now it's 3 weeks after and we want to make sure they won't have an issue with that.

Thank you for help.

If you are applying InLand and you are both able to sign the documents, I would recomplete all the forms which required the signature. Sign them and date them with a current date. You can copy the information from the returned application to complete the forms quickly, except adding anything which was missing or which has changed.

I checked the Official Guide for completing the Spousal Family Sponsorship forms, and it did not say how recent the signature and date should be.
But they returned your old application as incomplete. Personally, I would complete new forms with a date close to your new submission date.
I sent two official requests to CIC, for GCMS notes, (that's not something you need to worry about now), but anyway, my point is, on the second request I resent the same signed consent form I'd sent with the first request. They emailed me and said the signature was not recent enough and I needed to get a new form signed and dated and submit to them for the second request.
Since your application was sent back, you really are starting a New application so in my opinion, signing with a fresh date makes sense, although as I say, the guide doesn't specifically say so.
Hopefully it won't take too much extra time as you already have compiled all the answers for each form.

Wish you good luck.

It's not necessary to sign and date again. Are you sure that you have corrected the certificate error?

You can send other information, until NoA is available. Eg: T4's, current paystubs, a letter from your employer. They are not assessing the amount you make, they are assessing that you are not in receipt of social assistance.

My application was returned for the exact same reason! The only thing I'm updating for signature/date is the form IMM0008.

We will be applying through the outland process, otherwise signing once again with new dates wouldn't be a problem. ;) I'm assuming it should not be an issue, because we didn't sign our forms that long ago.

Yes, the birth certificate will go through this time without any worries, we fixed the mistake and made sure that we are doing the right thing. We worked on our application for many weeks after gathering evidence for even longer than that, and went over the contents of it more than a few times, as well as we read all available guidelines. We were convinced that the first birth certificate met the requirements, but we found out what was wrong. We did everything to make sure that our application has all the necessary details and we learned so much in the process. Getting it back to be over a month behind the queue now was disappointing and painful, but life goes on. :X

When it comes to tax documents, unfortunately we can only show the NoAs. My wife who is sponsoring me, is not currently working because she's a student. We are both 20 years old. And of course we gave them an explanation as to how we will support ourselves with all kinds of additional documents.

Just a heads up. There's a new version of IMM 0008 E GENERIC : Application For Permanent Residence In Canada (March 2017).
Wow, we wouldn't have known. Thank you. I wonder what changes they made exactly, because the two versions look identical.

Don't worry, this time everything will go well. Birth certificate is not that much of an issue, good thing that other documents meet the requirements. In the end, it's way better to do this whole process yourself than pay for consultants or lawyers, which is a complete waste. Good luck. ;)

Thank you for answers friends!
