Hi everyone!

We are just about ready to submit our application for common-law sponsorship and we just had a couple of questions concerning if we have enough proof / evidence of the relationship in the past and moving forward.

Firstly, we have each written a history of our relationship and were told we should include our future plans. The problem with this right now is that we do not have any concrete future plans. Right now we just know that, as we are both finishing school, we want to find career jobs and eventually when we have worked for a bit buy a house together. We both mentioned that in our letters but I am afraid that it isn't enough moving forward and am kind of worried.

We have a few pages of pictures of the two of us, including one picture each of us with each other's family. About 40 pages of Skype logs that shows us calling (video calls) each other almost every night for multiple hours but that is about it for communication is that is all we used (besides texts but we have both gotten new phones and did not think to save text records before then).

We have other such proof like a co-signed lease of our current apartment, letters and other proof of address from before we moved in here and she was not on a lease (to prove we've been together for over a year), gym membership together, phone account together, and other things such as those. We have a letter from our parents, notarized, talking about how our relationship is genuine..

Basically, going over what we have right now (thanks if you've gotten this far!) is there anything that we might be missing or anything else we should include? I'm probably missing a couple of items that we do have but any help would be appreciated.

How about your taxes did you change your status to common law. Life insurance polices naming each other as beneficiaries .I think your proof is good.Good luck .

Don't worry. As a Canadian-American common-law couple, you face a fairly low bar for proving a genuine relationship, as America is not a Marriage of Convenience source country and there are pretty much no cases of "Common-law of Convenience".

The key thing is proving that you guys are common-law and you seem to have sufficient proof of that.

Don't worry about the communication proof, as it really isn't necessary when you live together. The 40 pages of Skype logs (I'm guessing from before you were living together?) is overkill.

We applied common-law and didn't include any texts/emails/chats/Skype logs/etc.

exactly. we are married, never lived together and did not include any type of chat/text or skype logs. we just referenced the use of them in the application. no issues. i believe for us applicants, less is truly more.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I guess we were making it out to be harder than it really is.

I hope so, it's something I'm worried about too.
