Hi everyone.

I hope you can help. I have done the initial online assessment and qualify with 67 points (maybe a couple more). However, I'm concerned about 2 things:

1. Health - I'm asthmatic, and am worried that this will have some bearing on the medical decision. I also have another medical condition which requires me to take medication regularly. However, none of these conditions have caused me to have extended time off of work or hospitalisation. Will these factors stop me from having a successful application?

2. Landing funds. When you apply and it states you need to have X amount of funds - I do not have that money sitting in the bank. However, I have a flat which if I sell it now will give me more than enough money to live on. How can I prove I will have these funds - do I need to submit a copy of the bank statement at the time of sending in the application proving I have the funds, or will a letter quoting the value of the flat be enough - or will I only have to show funds once the application has been successful?

Many thanks in advance for your help on this.

1. No one on the forum is a Immigration Medical Officer, who makes the decision on your application. If your condition is not considered "excessive demand" see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/op/op15e.pdf then there won't be a problem.
2. Only London and sometime Sydney offices will accept an evaluation of property for settlement funds. Otherwise you have to show the cash upfront with the application, sometimes prior to visa issuance, and when you "land' No settlement funds, no landing.

Thanks so much for your advice - and for answering my questions so quickly. It doesn't mention anything about asthma in that document from what I can see, and when I've spent time in Canada my asthma doesn't bother me at all to the point I don't even have to use any medication. But if anyone else has been through the immigration process and have asthma, please post your experiences here.

As for the settlement funds, I guess what I will do is see if I can send in a valuation of the property now and then further information when the place is sold and the money is in the bank.

You have to pay for prescriptions in Canada and I believe an inhaler costs int he region of $100, so depending how many you need will depend on the cost at the end of the day. I dont believe it is considered an excessive demand because it is something that can be controlled by inhaler or medication and that is something you would pay for not the Canadian system. Although I'm not qualified to say that, I believe it to be the case.

Good luck :)

Slight change of plan!

Thanks for your advice.

However, my situation on application may be changing in the not too distant future! My Canadian boyfriend proposed and would like for us to get married this year - but I have things here to sort out like selling the property etc - and that will take time as it needs some decorating and some odd jobs done to it first. If I went out to Canada to get married and return to the UK to sort things out, will I need to apply for a visa if all I'm doing is going out to Canada to get hitched and then return to the UK? I'm worried that if I fill in the forms for the marriage licence that will have my UK address on it and then I arrive in Canada the officers may think I'm not going to return home (and of course, I want to do everything properly). Secondly, how easy would it be for him to file for me from his side once the wedding has taken place?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

1. Be upfront with Immigration when you arrive, state your intentions that you are going to marry and then return while your spouse submits a sponsorship. If you are UK citizen you don't need a visitor visa.
2. Submitting the sponsorship is no big deal see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/index.html
3. You will have to get your criminal records checks from all the countries that you have lived in for more than 6 months. You might as well start that before you go. Also you could have the medical before you go as well, it needs to be done before the application can be sent to Mississauga.

You will receive zero adaptability points. The sister must be living in Canada for you to receive adaptability points.
