Hi,
As per d bc,i guess u should probably submit the one u ave,abt d passport,u can still get d new ecowas passport nd when u get ppr,u can attach d one u sent with ur intial application(with a paper clip)to the new ecowas one so they know u r still d same person with both passports,u r better off doing dt than trying to get a new one when u get to canada.dis is just my advise based on what a friend did, when he sent his new passport for stamping.

The easiest way is to get someone from Lagos to go pick up the forms from Alagbon, and mail them to you, you fill them in and send back to Lagos. They then mail you the certs once its ready. Very easy and simple.

Some other people go thru the Nigeria High Commissions, but what most of the High Commisions do is the Standard Referral - which is no good for Canadian Immigration; some also follow the instructions to the letter by taking the Nigerian Police Certs forms to their local police station to fill it in the presence of a foreign Police Officer - who then stamps it and attests that the forms actually contain the fingerprints of the applicant, and that the prints were done in his presence. They then seal up the forms, and you mail it back to FCID alagbon for the certs.

Those are the ways of getting it done - that i know of.

Thanks...sounds kind of difficult to me though....back and forth mailing with that kind of mailing system in Nigeria? Well, will try the consulate and see what happens...and how much does it cost?

You would have to check with the 9ja consulate in the US for that. Do be mindful that what you want is not the Good Conduct Certificate(GCC) which Nigerian Missions are used to providing, as that is not what the CiC demands, what you really need is the Police Character Certificate(PCC).

You may try them out, and weigh the pros and cons. But if you really want your PCC sharp sharp with no stories, then you might be better off shelling out for courier fees.

Oceana,
May I ask what the CIC asks for, if it is not the Police Character Certificate?

The steps i took regarding my own application is what i stated in the first sentence above. I got someone to pick up the forms from Alagbon, mailed them to me via dhl, me and spouse filled them in and finger printed,, mailed it back to contact in 9ja to submit to Alagbon, contact picked up certs from Alagbon two weeks later - but the certs had been ready a day after contact dropped it off at Alagbon. That was what i did. I had to sign up for DHL-Staples a/c for all the back & forths, but i preferred it that way, expensive - yeah, but very minimal chance of things going pear-shaped.

The third scenario i gave is what another fellow applicant did, she took the forms to london met, and finger-printed in their presence, they security-sealed it, and gave it to her to mail to Alagbon. It worked for her. A long process, but its the proper way of doing it cos anybody could have thumb-printed, but that shows she did it in the presence of an authorised official. We both received our PR on the same day over two months ago.

BobbyB,
There is some confusion about the Police Character Certificate which CiC demands, and Good Conduct Certificate which Nigerian Missions abroad undertake to process. Some people confuse the two, i being one of them, one does not thumbprint to get the Good conduct certificate from Nigerian embassies, and it is no good for Canadaian Immigration. My post above could be misleading too, as i should have pointed out the difference. I do apologise for that error. My response to the fellow was in respect of the Good conduct certificate which the Nigerian High Commission in london provides for a fee of GBP35, and not PCC. A few people have ended up with GCC, whilst infact what they needed was PCC, all because of the confusion and the lack of adequate info from 9ja missions abroad. I shall do the needful and amend accordingly.

Many thanks.
