LANDED..........
been in Canada since may 2013
So its been almost 9 months since my husbands PR application has been received, and we would like to travel to New Zealand for 6 months or so...

my husbands medical was done on Sept 19th, so I assume that he would have to land by that time (hes already here)

I really don't want to start this application over again, ugh. but I will if I have to. if we decide on going to NZ it would have to be the beginning of October...so my questions are:

do we have to inform them of these travel plans?
does his landing have to be done by the year anniversary of his medical?
if we cancel, do they send the application back?
can we ask for an extension, and if we do, would they want more proof that we would return to reside to Canada?

thanks for any advice!!! :)

since your visa office is ottawa, did you apply outland? if so there is no risk to the application, and the applicant is free to not be in canada, as it is assumed an outland application resides OUTSIDE canada.

are you, the sponsor a canadian citizen or pr? if you are a citizen, you are free to travel as well (Assuming the application is outland). If you are a PR, then you can't travel for that long.

In either situation, i don't think it's necessary to contact CIC unless your mailing address changes. If the application takes longer than the medical expiration date, CIC can extend it. It is not recommended to do a second medical unless is specifically requested. An outland application can not be cancelled because of travelling. The applicant or the sponsor would have to withdaw the application officially with cic for it to be cancelled.

IF you applied inland, that is a whole different story...

If your husband's PR is processed outland and you are Canadian citizen, then the travel will have no effect on the application.

If you are PR and / or application is processed "inland" then you would jeopardize your PR processing.

yes I am a Canadian citizen, and we did outland...

i was scared to leave cuz i thought he would have a specific landing date to get his PR ie if its not processed before we leave then we can simply get an extension for his landing?

If app is approved before meds expire, the expiry date on COPR will be Sept 19, 2014. So would have to land by then.

If app is still processing after that time, then either a) CIC will extend medicals or b) they will request a brand new medical exam. In this case, COPR expiry will be either Sept 19, 2015 OR 1 year from new medical exam.

What if the its an outland application (sponsored person is in another country) and sponsor wants to visit? Still not possible?

Only possible if the sponsor is a Canadian citizen.

The PR can leave Canada for a short visit, no more than 3 weeks, the less the better since PR is on vacation. Not moving out of Canada to be with sponsored spouse/common law until PR is complete
