No surprise there are multiple threads about this. Wonderful news. Could not walk away from the television for hours and hours, even though the ultimate outcome was apparent from early in the evening, even before the polls here closed, for certain very soon after they did.

Overall I strongly feel this was a very, very good night for Canadians, even though the party which won is not the party I backed or voted for (although I gave a ride to the polls for someone I knew would vote Liberal, so I guess I was supporting that vote as well).

From another topic along the same lines:

Dpenabill, I didn't vote Liberal either, not because I didn't necessarily want them to win, but because the race in my riding was between the Conservatives and NDP. If some sort of proportional representation eventually comes in, that kind of strategic voting may become unnecessary. As it turned out, the incumbent Conservative lost, and that was what I wanted, even though having an NDP MP won't give my riding much clout with the new government.

I don't put much faith on the Liberals, but they are definitely LIGHT-YEARS ahead of Conservatives as my preferences.
Let's see what young Trudeau can do with the majority. I don't put much faith, but I have high hopes.

I am talking about 'Backlog' created by Kenney that resulted in quarter a million (250,000) citizenship applicants from 2011-2013 waiting for their cases to be finalized. That's not just a number I made up. It is on the CIC website.. Massive backlog of spousal sponsorship applicants, massive backlog of people who waited years and years for their PR cards. I am one of those whose citizenship app has been going on for 48 months with no end in sight.
I guess you expect shitty services from your government. I don't. No one should.
But let me give you an example of how governments can deliver better: In Australia, it takes 81 calendar days to process a citizenship application.
Jason Kenney and Chris Alexander ruined the system by their unnecessary budget cuts.
But before you go bad mouthing me, let me tell you I was a Conservative party member until very recently. I am not happy PM Harper lost. But I am sure happy Alexander lost. And I am happy Libs will put an end to the mess created by Kenney et al. Ok?

Do you know how Canadian gov't functions, or how politics work here? Had Alexander not lost, he would have not been in the cabinet of the opposing party. Alexander was a Conservative party member, Trudeau is a Liberal party member.

Funny that when Harper finally won a majority in 2011 with 39.6% of the votes, the media called it a SERIOUS AFFRONT TO DEMOCRACY.

Now that Trudeau won a majority with 39.4% of the votes (less than Harper), the media called it a "LANDSLIDE"?
