Hello All,

I have a question regarding Section 6G in the Citizenship Application (Minor Children's Education History) and I would appreciate your advice on this:

1. My Son (8 year old) went to school in UAE till 31st Jan 2012
2. We moved to Canada on 1st May 2012 (Originally Landed/became PR in 2009)
3. My Son started school in Canada on 23rd May 2012
4. My son did not go to school between 1st Feb 2012 and 2nnd May 2012 (moving to Canada plus waiting for admission in school in Canada)

The question is how should I fill section 6G from below options:

1. Is it necessary to break down the days he did not go to school in section 6G i.e. should I have 4 rows there as:
a. School in canada (23 May 2012 onwards
b. In canada but not going to school (1st to 22 may 2012)
c. In UAE but not going to school (1st Feb to 30 Apr 2012
d. In UAE going to School
If I Make 4 rows then I do not have any document to provide for the 2nd and 3rd Rows (he did not go to school) hence I will not be able to check the boxes (Document Provided / Child not at School Age), will this cause problem?

2. OR should I just make two rows:
a. School in Canada (23rd may 2012 till date)
b. School in UAE till 31st Jan 2012
If I only make two rows, will the gap in between schools (1st Feb to 22nd May 2012) cause any problems?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Best Regards

Option 2 makes more sense, but I would put only first entry (start with May 23rd) without mentioning school to Jan 31st. You landed May 1st, 2012, is that right? I know the guide says to cover the 4yrs prior to application, but actually if you landed less than 4yrs ago, landing is the date you should start.
For ex my wife landed Jan 2011 and applied Sept 2014. My daughter born outside Canada same. All info filled in application were starting Jan 2011 and not Sept 2010 to cover 4yrs. Application was not returned and is In Process.

Well then for child education should be same. The problem now is be prepared to justify 3yrs out of country right after landing.

I would go with the second option. Also I would provide a written explanation note. I know for a fact it works.
We landed in 2008 and then left for 2 years. Don't believe leaving is an issue as long as you have 1095 days plus work etc. Good luck my friend.

Thanks Guys,

Although we have stayed 3 years out of the first 5 years outside Canada its not a problem and its within the allowed limits as far as residency requirement is concerned. Also we just got our PR card renewed in August 2014, so its all good.

Option 2 looks good to me with a cover letter explaining the absence from school for 3 months.

I would like to hear from others who have successfully applied for citizenship and have had some gap in child's education continuity (I guess you can't just move to Canada and send your child to school next day, there are formalities that needs to be fulfilled before the child gets admitted to school)
