Okay guys, rant time! I just received a negative EOR on my 6th IELTS attempt.

Date - LRWS

24 Sep 16 - 7.5, 8.5, 6.5, 8.0
10 Nov 18 - 8.5, 8.5, 6.5, 7.5 EOR
05 Jan 19 - 8.5, 7.0, 6.0, 7.0
14 Feb 19 - 8.0, 8.5, 6.5, 7.5
24 Mar 19 - 8.0, 7.0, 6.0, 7.0
02 May 19 - 8.5, 7.5, 6.5, 7.0 EOR

Needless to say, both EORs went futile. I have been posting on this forum for a while and you can see my essays on profile. I have been graded 7 by a number of people and even by Chris Pell @ IELTS Advantage but that was the lone correction I took from him. If you have any advice, please chime in.

Same here, I gave 5-6 attempts in period of 2 years along with couple of futile EORs.
if you are consistently achieving 6-6.5 in writing, TA might be an issue.
Make sure you practice on IELTS Task 2 writing sheet to familiarize with word count and understand the qs well and plan a thorough outline before you start writing.

Using model essay starters is fine as long it matches with the tone of rest of the essay.

Always, include atleast 5 mins for re-check at the end.

I have a very practical advice for you. The one that worked for me and increased my score

My IELTS score -
1st attempt
8.5,9,6,7
2nd attempt
8.5, 9, 7.5, 7.5

For writing- While writing essay please focus on using more complex sentences. (using neither..nor, as, although, nevertheless, etc) . You will find the examples of complex sentences online. And one very easy trick i used was I just remembered 5 difficult words with meanings that can be used anywhere (e.g: jeapordise..... if you are not being attentive of blah blah blah..you are jeapordising the society/yourself) . While writing essay i wrote them down separate and made sure i use all of of them properly in the essay. It really helped boost my score

Hi. In listening when we are asked to do a tabular column type of questions having only one word to answer ...lets its

ACTIVITY DURATION CONTACT PERSON
__________ 3hrs leader

For questions such as these lets say the activity is trekking...
Is it wrong to write Trekking ?

The answer sheet says trekking .
Whats wrong with writing Trekking in such contexts .

Can someone pls throw some light

Gave 2 attempts 1 month after the other.
First attempt : 9,9,6,8
Second Attempt : 8.5,9,7,8

For me writing was the toughest. I didn't know about the writing structure in my first attempt so i was sure i wouldn't get a 7 . I practiced writing by just following a structure for my essay and got a 7 . So here are my top points for getting a 7 in writing

1- FOLLOW a structure. Extremely important that you do proper paragraphing and follow a structure for your essay . you can find different essay structures on ieltsadvantage.com and by watching jays videos. ( i did that )

2- Make sure you write clearly and your writing should make sense. Don't use extra flashy words if you are not sure. Keep it simple.

3- Your essay should have complex sentences . Complex sentences are simply long sentences . use them to get more marks

4- Exceed the word limit - DONOT write less than 250 words.

5- Your essay arguments should be logical and well explained.

that's what i did to get a band 7 from band 6 in writing within 15 days.
