Filling out this form and had a question. Under question 2C it asks Name of your business. I'm a freelance writer and I design ebook covers. The writing, which is a majority of my income, doesn't really have a name. Right now I have just put in Freelance Writing, but obviously I'm not sure this is 100% correct. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I am not sure about it either.. but I think, freelance isn't a business or self-employment. You are still employed by somebody. I would just write what the occupation is, the incomes, the employment period, the last company that employed you. And on a separate sheet of paper I would explain, what the situation is, what companies I have worked for, what I did etc. You also will need the letter from your employer(s). Probably the most recent.

I think, better provide as much info as you can.
That's what I would do.. :)

Good idea about attaching a letter of explanation.

Maybe freelance writer is a bit misleading as well. I'm a self published author who publishes through amazon. The only work I do for other people is covers, and that's for fiverr. Which isn't really the place to be asking for professional recommendations of this kind.

We all have non-standart situations and circumstances at some point. We just gotta make sure we explain it to CIC well.

Again, I would suggest writing the explanation letter of the absence of the employment letter and your work position in general. Maybe providing links, the transaction evidence of your pay or whatever proof you can get about your employment. And hopefully you will be good!!

Good luck!! :)

Yes, just put 'freelance writer' and attach a letter of explanation.

Thank you both for the explanation and reassurances. I'm a bit frantic today because (like most people) do not enjoy filling out forms, but I just want to get all the paperwork out of the way.
