Hello,

Is it possible that a 54 year old Lawyer can apply for Express Entry ?
Although the points for age would obviously be decreased, does anyone have experience on if the application would be rejected as too old or discriminated against by provinces?

I have no experience of this and I'm just hypothesizing based on available facts.

Sorry to say this but the way the system is structured, you will get 0 points on age which is nearly 20% of the maximum CRS score of 600 (without a job offer or PN). It is subtle and not overt discrimination and has a lot to do with the perceived economic benefits accruing from potential immigrants who have longer working life ahead of them compared to others such as yourself.

Having said that, you can definitely create an EE profile and look out for getting an LMIA approved job offer or a provincial nomination because you wouldn't score high enough on CRS to get an ITA in the normal course of things.

All the best!

Hi Wanbetty,

I'm 49 and the points stopped long ago for me/us but you won't be penalized, you just won't get as many points as a 25 yr old . If you have a valid job offer supported by an LMIA(this will bring you an added 600 points) then along with your level of education, you would have as good a chance as any. Other factors may include your time in Canada, how long you've been working in here, whether you have a spouse you wish to bring with you etc.
In regards to rejection, if you still plan to work and have a skill set that is in demand or a specialist area then I would say you are wasting time by not applying!
Ultimately you can talk to an immigration lawyer for a definite answer but there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum so I hope they can give you a more specific answer for free!

Best of luck!

Hi,
Thanks for your advice and responses . I'm looking at a 54 year old with a child that's a Canadian PR and 2 dependents above the age of 18 ( 19,21) .
Obviously 54 is an old age to attempt to re-qualify for the Canadian bar but the idea is to start a business or look into other similar skill areas for work.

Would a good financial sum in the account ( property values ) etc, be sufficient to show willingness to invest , and obviously the family connections might help too .
I would hope that there are people on here who have taken their parents along to Canada through the FSW route vs SuperParent visas.

I know someone who applied at age 56 for last year's FSWP on their own, after being turned down by an immigration consultant for their age. Got PER, right now waiting for their MR.
