Asslamualikum,

I'm a Canadian citizen by birth and have been in Pakistan for close to 2 years I got married here and am pregnant now but am not allowed to travel alone as I'm having anxiety attacks during my pregnancy and cannot be left alone nor travel alone I also submitted a doctor's note stating these facts. I've written a hardship letter that was submitted with application for a 6 month Visitor Visa and other forms that were required via Gerry's Fedex on April 5. It has now been 46 business days my husband has been told by Gerry's today that due to the summer holidays to wait for a response from Canadian Embassy for another 2 weeks.

Has this taken place with anyone else... any advice would be grateful. My entire family lives in Canada my husband's family all live here in Pakistan. We have every intention to return to Pakistan but we want our child to have canadian nationality and I need hubby with me for this special time in my life. I love living here in PK it's such a laid back country subhanallah.

Jazak Allah :)

There is really nothing you can do but wait, be patient and hope your husband's visa is approved.

Newtone, did you notice that this new mum to be is a Canadian herself? I can understand why you would want to be with your Canadian family for the birth of your child, Jazak. I know that the additional strain of waiting for visas doesn't help, but try to relax, get out for regular walks with friends and eat well. All the best.

If child's Canadian Nationality is your only purpose to move to Canada with your hubby then the child will still be a Canadian Citizen even if he/she is born here in Pakistan.
If any of the parents is a Canadian Citizen then the child will be a Canadian citizen irrespective of the place of birth

Asslamualikim,

Bad news today hubby did'nt get his visitor visa. We have decided teary eyed that I will still return to Canada to give birth. Birth is a safer option in Canada then in Pakistan. But will come back in November inshallah.

Thank you everyone for your replies... they helped at this emotional time. As I've never been apart from my husband more than a night. We've been married 1 year and 15 days today.

Gracias

How wonderful to share such a loving marriage, I am sorry that the visa has not come through. As you know, the priority here is a safe delivery. You will have your Canadian family for support and Skype will give you the ability to share as much as possible with your husband at this amazing time in your life. What reasons did they give for rejection? Can you see any way to overcome them and apply again around the time of the delivery when a shorter visit time would be requested? Perhaps including that your husband wants to be with you for the birth and would be required to help you get back to Pakistan with the new baby in November. I would think that was a COMPELLING reason to ask for a visa.

I agree with the above poster. That would be a compelling reason for them to give your husband a visa. I have been in your position(or the position you will be in soon) - my wife lives in Canada with our children while I live here in Pak - it's hard but its not like we have a choice. Currently they don't have the appeal system in place. Sykpe, phone calls, texting thats the only way to stay in touch but try what the above poster mentioned. I was rejected even after they issued me TRV twice in the past. Just depends on your luck, every VO treats the case differently. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy and sincerely hope u two get re-united again soon either in canada or in pakistan.

canadian by birth in PK if birth of baby is here is baby canadian automatically

Hi,

UPDATED also CHANGED subject line
46 days applied Visitor Visa Pregnant canadian wife needs to travel w PK husband... changed subject need info on above subject.

Husband was not approved for 6 month visitor visa because not enough financial support confirming ties to that husband will return to Pakistan.

I'm a born canadian from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada Question...

Should I stay in Pakistan to give birth or is it best to travel to Canada to give birth. The reason for this question becuase the idea of being seperated from my husband is causing unnecessary stress for both my husband and I. As stated in my previous posts we've been married over a year and it was arranged but we have not been apart from each other more than a night. And to be seperated for 4 months is causing me anxiety attacks. But my family and husband's family have advised me it's best to give birth in Canada.

Also I've heard some horror stories that if I give birth in Pakistan it will take years for my child to be sponsored. I was under the impression that's only the case for canadian citzens and not canadians by birth.

Unable to find any specific canadian government webiste. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Merci :)

I found some interesting links, probably seen them yourself, but just in case, here is one from FORUM about this issue http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/citizenship-certificates-for-babies-born-outside-canada-to-canadian-parents-t71061.0.html

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/citizenship/index.asp
Lots to read here. In a nutshell, the new law says: "in general, children born outside Canada on or after April 17, 2009, will only be Canadian at birth if they are born to a Canadian parent who was either born in Canada or became a Canadian citizen by immigrating to Canada as a permanent resident and subsequently being granted citizenship (also called naturalization)."

Then there is an official government link, although it relates to JAPAN, (check the PAKISTAN LINK near the bottom of this post.) Canadian Citizenship — Children Born Abroad http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/japan-japon/consular_services_consulaires/citizenship-citoyennete.aspx?lang=eng&view=d

The proof of Canadian citizenship for a Canadian born abroad is a Canadian citizenship certificate. A child born outside Canada to a Canadian parent and meeting certain requirements is a Canadian citizen. However the child will not possess a birth certificate issued by a Canadian governmental authority and for proof of Canadian citizenship, the child will need to obtain a Canadian citizenship certificate. An application must be submitted to obtain this certificate. Although applications are processed in Canada, you may submit the application to a Canadian diplomatic office abroad. In Japan, such applications can be submitted to the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.

For details on how to apply, please read How to Apply for a Canadian Citizenship Certificate for a Child Born Outside Canada. For a downloadable version of the appropriate application form please click here: Application for a Citizenship Certificate (PDF *, 318 KB).

I found the Pakistan site: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/pakistan/visas/index.aspx?lang=eng&view=d then did a search for citizenship birth and it took me directly to the UK http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/consular_services_consulaires/born-abroad-nees-etranger.aspx?lang=eng&view=d

Hope some of this is helpful. Let us know.

Glad you made it safely here and now that your have some idea of the way things will be for a while, I hope your anxiety will decrease. Try to focus on the good things each day and enjoy your time in Canada. Please let us know when your baby arrives, and hopefully your husband before that.

Hey hope things will work for you this way.

But some info I would like to share as you are pregnant--> New born baby is not allowed to go out of Canada within first 6 months. So once you have a child then your child have to wait for atleast 6 months which I heard in Canada.

But you can travel.

I am sorry - I don't wanna throw bad news but this what I recently heard. Hope will help in planning for future.

FYI - you took a right step coming to Canada for baby birth.

cheers,
IAMRIGHT

My wife traveled with our 3 months old kid. No problem

The doctors recommend that you shouldn't travel for first 2 months cuz baby is too young. But there is no rule that says you can't travel for 6 months.

This is preposterous!! and so wrong!! you must be thinking of something else, like how long it takes to get a passport for a baby, maybe your in Quebec where the baby has to stay for 6 months or you have to repay for the birth, or the country your entering doesn't allow babies that young to cross. Doctors recommend not taking your child under 2 years to a underdeveloped country cus of the risk of disease but, the Canadian Government doesn't stop you from traveling with your child. I had my child in the US, I crossed him into Canada when he was 4 DAYS OLD applied for his Citizenship card and crossed back when he was 3 weeks old. I got not one question from either the Canadian border service or the American border service.
