What are the options for a 4 years old child? I've heard of preschool, kindergarten... what is the difference? What are the usual working hours? Will they keep the child busy during the whole day so that parents could go to work 9-5? How expensive is this?

A 4-year-old child can attend free kindergarten or elementary.

Thank you, Steaky. I've got more questions though... Does it last the whole day or something like 9-12 only? Does it exist in every elementary school? Does it cost anything?

I think it`s best to check schools/kindergartens in your neighbourhood as each might have their own different rules.

The thing is, at this point I have to decide which neighborhod to move in, hence was trying to find one with the best options.

Perhaps at this point you can send your question by email to the school/kindergartens/school board

4 year olds typically go to pre-school/day care but this is not free for some provinces. it's usually half day, either AM or PM class and sometimes only 4 times a week

5 year olds go to kindergarten, half day AM(9-11:30am) or PM(12:30-3pm) five days a week. they attend in elementary schools and is free, i think you only have to pay for school supplies that the kids will use.

kids start elementary school at 6 years old, usually from 9am-3.30pm or 8.30am-3pm
