Just got my visa today, 31 months later. I'll give the details a little later. Gotta get the Guinness into me now.

Hi, Paddyboy. Congratulations!

I wonder how long it took before you got your passport back. We'll be sending our passports to the embassy on Monday, dec 28. Can we expect to have it back sometime in January?

Thanks. Good luck!

Sorry for the long delay with an update.

Applications handed in on 05/07
Approval for sponsor 06/07
Request for more with regards to relationship - 07/07
Application denied 01/08

Appeal filed 03/08 got date 10/08
Won ADR 10/08
Letter from Consulate requesting more info and updated family info -01/09
Supplied requested info, new police reports x2 (different countries), new medical.
Request for more info (updated personal info, police reports and family composition) and payment of Right of Residence fee 11/09
Advised visa is ready and request for passport (sent same day & return by courier paid for) 12/09
Got passport -24/12/09
Landed 12/09

In summary a very long and very frustrating process, something you truly have to be prepared for (and we were not), but also something well worth it. My advice anyone applying as a sponsored person (especially conjugal) is:

1) Do your research well and don't be afraid to ask questions.
2) Copy EVERY document, email, receipt and or payment you make.
3) If possible send documents via courier if not registered mail (traceability).
4) Don't be afraid to email, if not fax the Consulate(s) requesting status about your file if it is delayed.
5) Be honest with EVERY bit of info you give, it's not worth lying.

All I can say is I'm glad it's over and I'm just happy to be in Canada with loved ones and most of all wish every one else out there going through the process lots of luck. Again dont be afraid to ask. ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)
