Hello Senior members!

While looking for a course which could give me the max PGWP, I came across Centennial College's 2 Yr Fast Track program for Post Graduates. The course duration is listed as 2yrs. But there are only 2 semesters in that course.
Now, As I came to know through this forum that if someone takes a PG course of 2 or more years, They are eligible for 3 years of PGWP. I am confused if I take this course, whether I'll be eligible for 2/3 years of work permit or just 8 months/1 year permit.

Kindly put some light on the facts. The link to the course is:

i have an almost similar question, im getting enrolled in a M.eng program ... the official duration is near 2 years (says on my offer letter "usually takes about two years to complete" , but nothing on the start and end dates) ... now im in a fix because im thinking of completing it in THREE semesters. BUT, it will take FOUR semesters since my uni (uni of ottawa) doesnt offer courses for M.eng in the summer semester; so, now, when i graduate, this summer semester might appear as a blank semester, or not at all,

so, depending on that (enrolled for three sems, but took four sem's time on a two tear course), how is going to be the duration of my PGWP?

Dear Friends,

From what I know, the PGWP depends on what the official program length is and not how long you took to graduate it. Every program (I mainly have researched Masters courses) has a typical duration and a maximum duration. For example if a Masters course with official length of 1 year, but you take lesser course load and study it in 2 years, you will still get the PGWP of 1 year only. On the other hand, if a masters has an official length of 2 years, and you take the maximum course load and finish it in 1.5 years you will still be granted a PGWP of 2 or more years depending on the course.

I even though I am quite sure of the ruling I stated above please don't hold me to it. You can easily clarify the length of PGWP awarded by emailing the International Students department of any university / college. You can state your program name and code and ask them about the length of PGWP awarded.

Hope it helps.

You will probably get a PGWP of 8 months because in this course you will only study 2 semester i.e. 8 months in Canada.

Quote: " A student attends a foreign post-secondary institution and transfers to a participating institution in Canada in order to complete their studies. Under this scenario, if the qualifying educational credential is issued at an institution outside of Canada, they would not qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. However, if they did receive their educational credential from a participating Canadian institution, they may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit only for the length of time they studied in Canada."

*This is as per my thinking, you should confirm it from others as well*

You will probably get PGWP of 3 years. It depends on official length of program.

Quote: "Impact of length of program of study in Canada and the length of the work permit
A Post-Graduation Work Permit cannot be valid longer than the official length of your program of study in Canada. For example, students graduating from a four-year degree program might be eligible for a three-year year work permit. Students graduating from an eight-month certificate program would only be eligible for a work permit of eight months."

Having said that, you should also confirm it from your college's/university's international office because they will guide better. Also have a look at the following similar case in which the applicant got PGWP for 18 months after his MS which he completed in 3 semesters instead of 4.

Please be advised that if you complete a 2year program, you will be eligible for a work permit which may vary from 2-3years as it depends upon the officer.

When you apply for PGWP you have more options to prove the length of your studies. You can upload your transcript or you can get a letter of graduation from the school.

The letter is the best option since it will state the official length of your studies. Most 1 year programs are done in 2 semesters (8-9 months) and officers may give less time if they see the transcript only.

It depends on the credits you receive after finishing your course. 30 credits = 1 year PGWP, 60 credits = 3 years PGWP.
