]What is a routine application?

An application is considered routine if:

we receive all the necessary documents and the correct fees;
you meet the residence requirements;
you are not subject to any immigration, security or criminal prohibitions;
you meet the language requirements for citizenship;
you pass the knowledge-of-Canada test (citizenship test);
you do not need a hearing with a citizenship judge; and
you are not asked to provide additional documents such as fingerprints, a residence questionnaire or documents proving residence in Canada.

What is a non-routine application?

An application is considered non-routine if any one of the following has occurred:

we have not received all the necessary documents or the correct fees;
it is unclear whether you meet the residence requirements;
it is unclear whether you are subject to any immigration, security or criminal prohibitions;
you do not meet the language requirements for citizenship;
you fail or are unable to write the knowledge-of-Canada test (citizenship test);
you require a hearing with a citizenship judge; and
you are asked to provide additional documents such as fingerprints, a residence questionnaire or documents proving residence in Canada.[/quote]

How do they plan to bring it down to 12 months?? Also is this some sort of average they are taking? It doesn't seem to make sense with all the fast ones these days?

It is an average for 80 % of the applicants, not the abberations..so 25 months timeframe is average so can get in 8 months some can get in 25+ months as well for routine applications since it is an average

that is pathetic,it is while they promised to reduce the process to 12 months,they will reach to 36 in a few months if we do not complain

Guys, face it, this was to be expected. We complained, immigrant aliens to the public press, what do you expect?
Very understandable, not a Canadian phenomena. The stubborn bureaucrats paying us back for this...

New applicants have -obviously- not complained and will be processed faster (and will pay more in the near future for this feature).

So, STFU is the message!

Well although there is no certainity but due to CIC s past practices, they might follow two parallel systems of processing.A routine prolonged one for the old cases and a faster one for new applications.The same approach which they are following for PR applications.

Now they edited the page and it's from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 again! But it's 25 months now.

Isn't it sequential ?, I mean how fair is it for someone applies now would be processed before the two years earlier applicant? , could this happen on earth?

that is not happening any where around the world.it is special in canada.by the way,they are stuck in back logs of previous citizenship files that is why they are increasing the time plus that RQ backlog ,and lack of employes and fund to hire more and bureaucracy

I tell you, this is the pay back for complaining to the public. The more we complain the longer we'll have to wait. They shows us who's in charge. This is a typical reaction of all bureaucrats, not a Canadian phenomena. Unfortunately this is part of human irrational brain function (David G. Myers - Psychology).
