I believe the longest you can get your insurance for is 18 months from Travelance. We work with all Canadian insurance companies and that`s the only one that offers coverage for this period.

I suggest you start with 18 months option and extend for another 6 months.

If you are on IEC (formerly Working Holiday visa) you should look for IEC Travel Insurance from a Canadian company.

Those Policies satisfy all the requirement of IEC visa and cover you in all provinces. You can get insurance coverage for up to 2 years and includes comprehensive coverage, hospitalization, repatriation, drugs and dental. You can also apply for additional benefits such as routine checks, eye exams and maternity benefits. Accidental death and dismemberment, and baggage protection can also be included.

You can compare among all Canadian companies to find the optimal IEC Insurance plan

I wish i knew about that Canadian agency before i payed for mine but @HaydenAus what I am doing is getting 2 separate 1 year policies with http://www.travelinsuranz.com.au/ I have only got 1 year so far and hoping when i get to the border and they actually ask for proof i will show the 1 year and have a printed quote for a 2nd year and hope that passes..If that works well then you can get another policy online when the first one is about to expire.

It is definitely one way to do that and I believe this works with the point of entry officers. There are a few things to consider though. Not every company would allow you to buy 2 separate 1 year policies. First of all, if you have any claims during the first year your second policy will most likely be void. Then you will not be able to renew the policy and will have to apply with a different company. Usually in situations like these there is going to be a waiting period ranging from 48 hours to a week.

Also, if there was a claim during your first year you will have to get coverage for preexisting condition which will be more expensive for a new policy. Of course you can just choose not to cover that but it might be dangerous.

If you have a chance get a 2 year policy to cover any future complications.

See the posting above for more information, there is a page on IEC/ Working Holiday

We got two years insurance online from bestquotetravelinsurance.ca. It had specific information for International Experience Canada visa holders. We liked the fact that it was the only insurance website that we found that we could actually put the dates for 2 years into the system & get a quote & policies for the full term of the visa all in one hit.
When you proceed it was actually 2 x one year policies. We decided on the TIC insurance & are happy with the refund policy terms if we happen to be able to be eligible for the Canadian health insurance system sometime within visa timeframe. We also chose TIC because you can have a trip break back home without it cancelling your policy.

TIC is a great company, the only thing is that it may seem less affordable for IEC applicants. For someone who is 25 and health- more than $2,000 for 2 years.

TIC is best for people who are looking for added benefits under their Inpatriates to Canada policy- which features a routine check up, eye exam, vaccinations and most importantly (for some)- maternity benefits for up to $10,000. If you are interested in those features you can check out the page below:

Here is the link where you can apply for 2 year IEC Insurance plan with a Canadian company that is more affordable.

As always, make sure that you understand the policy's benefits and exclusions before you apply.

Is there a refund available for those staying less than a full year or 2 year? I don't seem to get an answer
Yes, you are eligible for a partial refund in case you did not make any claims using your policy.

All you need to do is to provide the insurance company with a proof that you are leaving Canada. Send them a scan of your boarding pass along with a cancellation form. You will have your money back at the credit card you used to purchase the policy in the first place unless you negotiate the terms with a company's representative.

so even if it's a small claim there will be no refund? I'm thinking like $50 check up or something. Or can it be reconsidered on a case by case basis?

Most companies would consider allowing you to retract your claim for a fee. So if it's a small claim you can cancel it and apply for the refund of any unused period.
