Interesting I didn't know you lose points for being married. The way you've written it it seems like they only want single people to apply.

It depends on the spouse's qualifications/IELTS/ECA. Married people can make up those points through their spouses. They ideally want both people in a marriage who are migrating to be highly qualified and skilled.

Apparently no draw tonight . I'm on 473 and will drop to 454 on 22nd of this month as I am getting married . Express entry wasted my one precious year of my life and now I see no hope . Weldone Canada.
I understand your dissapointment, but it's a little too harsh. Canada owns you nothing as you are a foreign national.
How come you "wasted" a year without being selected though? The points were as low as 450.

Actually, that is not true..
Apart from what 8Hannah8 has mentioned (scores went well below 473 several times), someone can correct me, but the way I believe it will work is that even if you would get an ITA today, your spouse will need to be added to your application as soon as you are married...
So suppose you get it today, submit it in 3 or 4 days even, on the 23rd of November, you need to resend your updated information with the marriage certificate.... and I believe it will be recalculated with all the spousal details..
Otherwise so many engaged/ just about to get married people will send their eAPRs and then get married 10 days later, without it affecting their eligibility... so I think as soon as you update with your marriage, they would mostly re-assess the entire file with spouse...

Partly true.

Recalculation of points happens only if the applicant's marital status changes before receiving eAPR. If they get married after that, the spouse will be added to the application without points being recalculated. Remember though that what matters is when the PA gets married not when the marriage is reported to CIC. If the applicant gets married before receiving their eAPR and informs CIC later, their points will still be recalculated if the spouse chooses to accompany the PA.

So guys, no draw this week? I wonder, how they are going to fit the remaining 6 draws into 2 months (considering Christmas holidays as well)? They should be decreasing the cut-off to 450- (which is fair) or reduce the number of draws this year (which is far more probable as we all know CIC)...

I was also told by an immigration lawyer today that they're unlikely to do a draw next Friday as its Friday 13th.

I suggest you change your lawyer

Haha, indeed. And... I'd double check the lawyer post. Most are Immigration Consultants, not Lawyers. Just make sure your getting what you paid for...

PS this is not my lawyer. I would not be silly enough to pay for a lawyer. Every lawyer quote I've received is way over priced. Hence my first reason for joining this forum.

The lawyer is my friend who I stayed with when I first arrived in Canada. She specialises in immigration law. She was just giving me her opinion.

I told her I hope she is wrong.

Also total guess here, so please let me know if it's wrong. What if after he got selected and he applied, he then got married, and the drop in points means he he will struggle to get selected, HOWEVER, remember in this hypothetical situation he already got the ITA and the application is already underway, so what if the points for the programme he wants (for example FSW) are still above the entry requirements. Then what? Then he's lucky as it won't matter about the lower CRS points, as he got the ITA and hes in the system already?

Just an interesting thought, would be interesting to hear your thoughts Asivad, or anyone else.

If the PA gets married AFTER submitting the post ITA application (receiving the eAPR), their spouse will be added to the application without points being reassessed. So the question of lower CRS points doesn't arise.
