I am starting to think that we are the cursed applicants who will wait 27 months before receiving the citizenship.

That's insane! The fact it's taking them this long! I mean seriously, the whole process is pretty straightforward. If they had enough resources, they could probably wrap every application up in less than 1-2 months.

Is your application complicated or not routine?
The process is pretty straightforward indeed and should take no more than a few weeks for routine cases. Out of frustration with the lack of updates, I had ordered GCMS notes at the end of May and finally received them a few days ago. It looks like no more than a week has been spent actually doing anything with my application, and each time someone touched my application, something was completed that day. But it just has taken months for anyone to look at my application after each step.

And it really should have been even easier to process online applications during the pandemic since all the documents are already in one place, no need to go to the office and open packages. Yet online has been so much slower since about January 2021.

I am Nov applicant applicant , status is still in progress . Yes I agree IRCC has created 2 classes of applications online applications seems to have lower service class . If they wanted to create different classes it should have been based on processing fee.

Citizenship test not started

My wife and kids were on paper application -
Application submitted on Dec 16, 2021
AOR: Feb 8th, 2022
Citizenship Test invitation: April 13, 2022
Test taken: May 8, 2022
Test status updated in ECAS as completed: May 11, 2022

Looking at her timeline I was under impression I will get the test invite sometime in June but Thanks to this thread, I believe I shall not expected anything this year.

I always thought online application processing should be faster (look at WES and OINP) but seems for citizenship it's different

does anyone know why IRCC is refusing to process online applications at the same time as paper applications. One would think it would be easy for them to process online applications . I have tried to contact IRCC to know if there's an issue with online apps.
1. I think they are having issues with online applications, perhaps most staff have not been trained on online applications
2. their systems may have a limit on how many applications they can access at the same time
or maybe they just dont care lol

Hi guys I did receive a letter today with a citizen application number on it. Is this an AOR or just an acknowledgement?

However it also says:

Subject: APPLICATION FOR CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP
This is to acknowledge receipt of your application for Canadian Citizenship. We will review your
application and supporting documents and will contact you if additional information is required.

hmm interesting
How the e-certificate pilot works
If we approve an application, the successful applicant currently gets a paper citizenship certificate that proves their Canadian citizenship.
We’re now testing an electronic certificate (e-certificate) with some applicants who submitted an application to become a Canadian citizen (grant of Canadian citizenship).
If we select you to participate in the pilot, you
  • will receive an invitation by email
  • may accept or decline the invitation
    • If you accept the invitation, follow the email’s instructions for your next steps.
    • If you decline the invitation, you’ll get a paper certificate (opens in new tab) (if we approve your application).
If you get our email invitation, you’ll only receive an e-certificate if
Participating in the pilot does not mean we’ll process your application faster.
You do not need to contact us. We’re working to make the e-certificate available to all successful applicants in the future.

saw this on the citizenship application website. if they do this it will greatly speed up processing
