Hi Guys,

Just wanted to create this thread to call all 2017 PGP applicants. I am planning to sponsor my parents and was hoping we could help each other in the process.

There is an active 2016 thread that I have been following for updates - http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/tips-for-2016-future-pgp-applicants-t333951.0.html.

Hope we can do the same for 2017

Cheers,
G

Good morning,

Thank you for creating this thread, I too am hoping to apply in 2017. I reviewed the user guide on the weekend and had some questions so I called the helpline. And I was shocked to hear what the agent had to say. They don't answer general questions anymore - as in any clarification you might need about the process, they stopped doing that since the past year. The agent advised me to seek an immigration consultant's help and I think that is outrageous. Why should I pay a consultant because CIC hasn't made things clear on their website?

Anyhow these are some of the questions I have and I shall appreciate any feedback that you might have:
1. The table the shows the income cut offs... does is cover LOIC + 30% or we are supposed to add 30% to what is listed there?
2. My parents are in Canada right now but they plan to return to the home country (India) in November. I presume that the application package should still be sent to Mississauga office and not the Canadian embassy in New Delhi? My plan was to have them sign the pages that they are supposed to sign and then fill out the forms and mail them when the gates open in jan2017
3. Do you have an idea as to when they might update the forms and the income cutoffs for 2017? I think it is still showing as per 2016.

Hope to hear more on this forum.

Good luck with the application,
Shankar

Hi Shankar,

1. Yes. Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) is LICO + 30% so you don't need to add anything to the number
2. Correct, it should go to Mississauga office
3. No idea but should happen soon. Hope someone from 2016 can tell us when they could see updates for the income cut off table. They may not update the forms.

You don't need to hire anyone, Canada visa has all info from past applicants and hopefully we will more 2017 applicants join this thread soon.

Not a good idea. You need to have the complete package ready before the program re-opens, and send them to a local courier service. The courier will then stand in line at CPC-Mississauga early morning on Jan 3 when program re-opens, to make sure your app is one of the first received.

There are several couriers in the GTA that offer special service specifically for PGP applications.

Hi Rob,

Do you know which local courier accepts packages from outside Toronto? I live in Calgary and I am planning to send my package to one of the couriers in Mississauga area. I have seen other applicants use Fedex and Purolator from Calgary in past so still debating which would be a better option.

Thanks

Go to the 2016 PGP thread as there was lots of discussion on the good and bad couriers.

Hi all,

My wife and I are planning to sponsor her parents in Jan 2017.

My wife (sponsor) had been employed full time for the last two years and recently became unemployed. Does it negatively affect the sponsorship application if the sponsor is unemployed and collecting EI at the time of the application in Jan 2017? I (co-signer) have been and expect to be employed full time when we apply. Our combined income for the relevant previous three years (2013, 2014, 2015) will be greater than LICO + 30%

Anyone from the 2014/2015/2016 batch who was in a similar situation and had their sponsorship application approved without any queries/issues?

Checking now because if it might lead to problems for the sponsorship application, she can proactively go off EI and step up her efforts to secure at least a part time position over the next three months.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

You have to continue to meet LICO +30% while the application is being processed and CIC will sometimes asked for updated financials during processing to make sure you still meet this minimum. As long as you and your wife continue to meet LICO + 30% after you submit the application - you should be fine. Being on EI is not a problem - however you cannot go on welfare / social assistance.

Hi Guys,.

I will also be applying for my parent's immigration in 2017. Looks like CIC hasn't updated the forms yet. According to the 2016 forum, the financial information form was updated in mid November.

Also I am from Vancouver, is there anyone else from BC. I think choosing a right courier service would be challenge as well.

Cheers

I am planning to apply for my in-laws as well as parents in 2017. I guess all forms will remain same except the financial form IMM5768E. I would suggest completing all the latest forms as available on the CIC site and then when newer version is available then just copy over the information from old form to the new one.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers!

Hi all,

My wife and I are planning to apply in Jan 2017 to sponsor her parents/my in-laws.

My wife had a legal name change here in Canada earlier this year, but all of her official documents which we will need to submit as per the checklist (e.g., PR card, our marriage certificate, her birth certificate) have her old name.

We plan to include in the file the official name change document issued to us by the registrar's office here in Ontario.

However, we were wondering whether we should use the new or old name when completing all of the forms.

Anyone else in a similar situation? Any advice/thoughts?

Thanks
