You live in Sagenay!? Wow, my parents-in-law live there, too. I live in Quebec city and many people here speak only French.
Yep, I'm up here in Saguenay. It's VERY french up here, but most people are kind and try to help me if I at least try in french. My husband is fluently bilingual, but he was gone for 4.5 of the first 5 months I was here. Probably helped me adjust more quickly, though it was painful.

Oh ok well it should be sorted by then but you know that after you have to wait some time for the Permanent Resident Card. Really you should have the card before you travel. You can ask for the permanent resident card as urgent. If not you should take the Permanent Resident papers with you, so you can get back into Canada.

You can even let them know that you will be travelling or get a travel document so they will defintley get back into Canada.

I would request the PR card as urgent and you should have it before you travel. They advise not to travel until you receive it.
Thanks again. You have been a great help. :)

I already have a visa which would expire end of this year. After the interview for the PR, can I just travel with that visa that I already have? I mean can I just apply for the PR card and then travel or like its a must that I would have to stay inside Canada until I get the PR card. Do you know how much time it takes to get the PR card?

The PR card is usually 2 months but if you do it as urgent, it wouldn't take to long to come. All visa's / work permits / student permits are cancelled / taken from you when you get PR status as you no longer need them. PR lets you do anything apart from vote... Which I don't agree with!

You have to have the PR card to get your permanent social insurance number. Some people never applied for a work permit and they can't get a sin because they have to wait for the PR card. Meaning they can't work for an extra 2 months waiting for the sin.

You need to defintley think about the PR card. Some people let immigration know and then use their PR papers. The PR papers would let you back into Canada but having the PR card is safer.

"We received your application for permanent residence on November 18, 2011.

We started processing your application on September 3, 2012.

Medical results have been received.

A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision."

I have called CIC but they could not give ETA about when the Montreal office would contact me . We have got only the email, have not got any documents via mail yet.

Any ideas about how long can it take?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Arif_haq!

I got the exact same letter this week! I just did my payment a few hours ago, one of my friends who did all the process recently told me once you do the payment it takes like a week for them to call you or send you an email to schedule an appointment and it is usually in 2 weeks from when they contact you!

Did you do your payment already? I will let you guys know when they contact me so we can all have an idea of how long does it take.

... maybe some of us will be doing interviews the same day! It would be cool if that happens!!! We can meet after and go for a beer to celebrate! hahahaha!!!

Hi chrischengwy! I'm in my second part-time french course (through the military family resource center - hubby's military), and the only other student in there with me is a friend whose first two languages are Cantonese and Mandarin. She said English was a lot easier for her to learn than French seems to be so far. I have no perspective. Whereas she is learning her fourth language in her third, haha, I've only the one language, English.
I'm quite the same as your friend there, French is way too hard comparing what we already learned, and on top of that, most of husbands family and friends are bilingual, they automatically switch to English whenever I'm in the conversation, this really not giving much help on my French. I hope the fully time French course will give me a good kick on it. Still waiting for the MICC reply if I can join the May 1 one.

Thanks for the info. Oh I will get the SIN right away? Ha, seems I eventually get some tax deduction for my husband then. That's good :p

Yes, I sent the OWP app along with the PR app, so it came a week after my AIP&DM. The official site said regular processing time for OWP is 3 months if you apply when you got AIP, hopefully it's shorter than that.

Well, unfortunately, Japanese grammar is completely different from French one. :'(

By the way, I'm wondering why sponsor doesn't need to show any proof of incomes? Even if we sent an application for CSQ, MICC doesn't ask us about the proof.

To everyone! Have a good weekend! ;)
I think they did check the incomes of sponsors, just not through what us. Cause when I was waiting after 4 weeks since I submitted the CSQ, I lost my cool and called them for the update of status, the answer is they waiting for the social service and revenue office's reply on my husbands record. So I guess they did check, but directly to the related offices. Good for us, less paper to prepare. :p

Thanks! I think so, too. MICC needs sponsor's SIN, so, I guessed the similar things. If this system makes the period of Step1 shorten, it's good for us.

I think the person who gets AIP next are you, QuebecOkie and snp30011. According to the processing times, CIC says ''Working on applications received on October 5, 2012''. This phrase hasn't changed for 2 weeks. It might take time more slowly to handle applications now? I hope you get your AIP soon! :)

I'm really looking forward to the full-time french course! My understanding (which could easily be wrong, I've tried several times to get more information, but I get a different answer each time...and most of the people I've contacted at MICC don't speak much english) is that you can get into the course once you have AIP. After submitting my application, a gentleman from MICC called me, and I put him on the phone with my husband (I was pretty excited I could exchange basic greetings with him in french, but no way could I talk about admission to the language program!). He said to send him the letter from CIC when I get AIP. So now...I wait!
