I know people do things for love and stuff but it sounds like this all process could be difficult for you... Hopefully you like it here and love for your husband is enough for you to be happy here!

At least you know you have friends at home waiting... Honestly you realise who your real friends are when you move away. Have you had much time to do any socialising here yet? I made a few friends at a place I worked here.

How long have you been with your husband?
The husband and I met in September 2010. We got married in April of last year. The decision to accompany him to Québec wasn't necessarily a "difficult" one...I couldn't just let him go. But it was a scary decision. This is definitely a difficult adjustment for me. Some days are better than others. Sometimes I feel like I have no friends here, but I know that's just me being negative. I do have a few friends here; this week I've had study dates and lunch dates and dinner dates, and some new friends are coming over tomorrow for drinks. Life was just so BUSY and loud for me back in OK. And it's seems really small here. I think a big part of that is not being able to work at all, which is one of many reasons the full-time french classes excite me. It will be like a job for me. My job will be to learn french. I'll have a schedule, and weekends will MEAN something again.

Okay, have to ask...what's sugaring off??

Quebecookie!

I know what you mean! It was the same for me when I moved to Montreal, I was in love with the city since I came lot of times before moving, and it was kind of frustrating not having anithing or anyone beside your loved one to do stuff. I come from Mexico city and Montreal for me is like a little town!!! I tried to find things to do to keep myself busy, while I was not working I volunteered in a few places and I think it was a great decision! I started getting involved more with the language, the people and getting "work experience". I'm not an athelete at all but I like excercise I found a group of runners near my place and joined them!!!

Honestly it was funny because at the begining I was complining I had nothing to do and I was bored that I ended up doing a lot of things with my free time that I had no more free time after hahaha!!

My french has improved A LOOOOOT!!! but dont ask me about writting a word because I'll freak out!!! I was actually cImong to the forum today to ask more info about the french classes and YOU GUYS READ MY MIND!!! lol

Thanks a lot for the info!! :)

Ha yeah I remember last years weather, I remember telling my husband 'winter ends in march' and he said there would be snow until beginning of May, and the weather picked my side ;) We got married in that nice weather!
Unfortunately I think I picked the wrong country to live in though because I do not like the sugaring off at all and everyone else is crazy for it :p
Yeah well I was told that last year that last year was mild. Well you were right about the weather and you got the sunny wedding!

Well I've never done sugaring off, we were suppose to do it last year but never had the time.

Haha, if Montreal is a "little town" to you, you would HATE it here where I am! (Saguenay...we're in Chicoutimi). Glad you found the french class info useful. I looooove this forum! I've learned so much here, and it's nice to chat with people who actually understand what I'm dealing with.

A lot of anglophone Canadians have a lot of trouble adjusting to life up here. They tend to forget I'm American, or they don't understand about the immigration stuff, and don't understand that I have another entire level of difficulty and worry and stress. Not being able to visit my family is the hardest part. If I had it to do over, I'd apply outland, but looks like they're having a lot of problems due to the closure of the Buffalo office, so perhaps I'm better off this way. *shrug* I'm feeling a little better lately, working at being social again, exercising again.

Way to go, Loops, for putting in the effort and making yourself a life there in Montreal! Happiness isn't some magical thing that either exists or doesn't. It's something that you sometimes have to work at, and to some extent, it's in our control.

So you have been together a while, I can understand why you would want to go where he goes. With the job he does, you don't really have a choice of where you go.

It is good that you've had the chance to get out and meet people. It is defintley easier when you have something to keep you busy, which doing French courses will do. Learning it away from the classes will keep you really busy.

Sugaring off is where they get the maple syrup out of the maple trees. You can actually taste it straight off the snow as it comes out the tree. The season for sugaring off is March and April, there are loads of places to do it.

They sell Maple Products as well.

Yeah, if his posting had come sooner, it WOULD have been a really difficult decision. As it was, like I said, it was scary, but I knew I couldn't just let my best friend go. Anywhere in Canada would have been difficult, just leaving behind all of my friends and family. Up here, there are the added challenges of the language stuff and it being a small place (REALLY small, if you're an anglo who's not bilingual!). But...today is a good day. :) And I've gotten to try snowboarding now and will probably get my own snowboard for the next season. And I'm getting to learn a second language, even if it's hard and sometimes frustrating. And my darling is sitting shirtless here with me in our living room, haha, with two days of beard growth and in house pants. Love that guy so hard!

Ah! Cabane à sucre! I think my french class might get to go there.

I have never heard of Magog, probably because it is small, it sounds like a great place to visit though.

So is Pink one of your favourite artists? I've also never been in Centre Bell.

It sounds like your going to have a fun few days. So you'll be buying a few books at Indigo then?

So your from Germany, as that is your profile pic. How are you finding adjusting to Canada?

For anyone who has applied for an open work permit with their Sponsorship.

I got my Approval in Principle on March 4 by email. It said on it that I would receive my open open work permit separately. I just received it today by post, so 7 days after I got the AIP. (They always send the work permit separately by post).

I now officially have a status again, I was getting bored with having implied status (I have had implied status since October 14 2012 when my open work permit expired).

I know it is not very useful but I asked for a work permit for 2 years and they gave me 2 years. The reason is, when I applied for the extension, I didn't know I had to wait till you get the AIP.

I noticed one difference between my old and new work permit; the new one has an extra clause - Not valid for employment in businesses related to the sex trade such as strip clubs, massage parlours or escort services.

kidvicious1, do you know when you got your CSQ? At the moment we just have Nov -Dec.

28th November I think.

Got my medical card thingy accepted at RAMQ today, valid from May 1st, can't wait. For SIN, we have to wait until either OWP or PR, correct?

Yeah Magog is really little but special. you would like it!!
I have seen pink 4 times in germany and she is really good. I miss going to concerts here but they are so expensive! And you??
For me as a german its not so difficult to live here. its really european here. I just have some troubles with the language. :D
And you? The poeple here in Quebec are very friendly. A big difference is the privacy. The people kiss each other cheeks and stuff. thats funny but in germany you dont do this with strangers.. :D

Quick question regarding proof of income that someone around here can answer maybe, hopefully...
In the checklist in the section "Proof of income for sponsor" it says "This section applies only to sponsors who are not residents of Québec" - so what is the deal for residents of Québec? They do not have to show any proof of income?
Thanks

Yes proof of income is not required for Quebec.

As you may know, in Quebec there is an extra step, applying for the Quebec Selection Certificate.
(You don't need to worry about it till later in the application).

In terms of finance, (when you do the CSQ). All Quebec asks for are:

1. Your Sponsor - A previous undertaking to sponsor a spouse, de facto spouse or conjugal partner has come to an end.

2.The sponsor has not been declared bankrupt within a certain time period.

3. The sponsor must not receive financial assistance of last resort (social assistance) except allowances related to your age or a disability that poses obstacles to employment that are serious, permanent or of indefinite duration

Hope that helps!
