In my case CIC has asked for Re-Medical last week. Strange that Medical was provided last year in May 2016 and GCMS notes shows that medical is valid until 27th May and still they asked re-medical

Hopefully this is the last step before background check and stamp your family passport to join you. Take care.

In general it is 1 year the time they receive the result and can extend sometime. If you have ever ordered the GCMS notes that will tell you for how long medical is valid.

I wrote back to CIC and mention that i have already provided the medical last year in May 2016 and it is still valid until end of May 2017. They replied back that application is about to getting finalize and by the time it will finalize your medical will expire and you will not have enough time to prepare to come to Canada that is why we are requesting re-medical so you get enough time for preparation.
