Hello
I currently hold a multiple entry visit visa which is valid upto 2 years. My husband went to Canada last month on a multiple entry work visa also valid upto 2 years. The Immigration officer allowed him to stay there for 2 years ( till the expiry date of the visa). Is it possible that the immigration officer will allow me and my daughter (also on the same visa) to stay there as long as my husband is staying? Because I have read many times in this forum that you are only allowed to stay in canada for upto 6 months if you come on a visit visa. Please help me out

If it’s a TRV, the CBSA officer will decide how long you get to stay at entry, but it won’t be more than 6 months. Could be less than that. You can apply to extend your visit while you are here, but an additional 18 months would be pushing it. You might get an extra 6 months.

You can apply for a SOWP when you arrive

You can also ask that your TRV coincides with your husband's work permit when you enter Canada. No guarantees but worth a try. Make sure to bring proof of your husband's work permit if he isn't travelling with you.

Okay thank you. How good are the chances that I might get the extension for upto 6 months?
