2 year Masters Diploma Equivalent to a 2 yr Masters Degree???

Dear Friends

Its for PR Canada.

My work exp. is 5 yrs +, that too as Accounts Manager, which is in the POL.

I want to know--

if my 2 year Masters Diploma in Business Administration (distance learning), from a Govt of India recognized Institute can give me any points ?

The course contents are Equivalent to a Masters Degree.

It s done after a 3 yr bachelors degree.

In India, Private Govt. recognized Instt. give PG Diplomas not PG Degrees.

Pls suggest.

im afraid, it was done via Distance Education na
and also, it States, Masters Diploma, not a Master's Degree

some Agents say i ll get 20, some say 22, and u saying 25

Can you tell us if it is a university credential or not?

Distance learning is okay.

SCDL , Pune is a Govt of India recognized Institute.
which is highly reputed for imparting Distance education for Post grad courses.

and yes, my diploma was of 2 yrs duration, done after 3 yrs of bachelors.

hence total 17 yrs. of education.

Its parent body is a Deemed University...which is Symbiosis.

In India, only one University (IGNOU) gives Distance Education after schooling, graduation and so on.

Students Enroll with the other reputed Instt.s which are well recognized by the Govt.

Here is the question: the institute that is on your certificate, is that a university?
For example, people study through colleges but get their degree through Anna University. It only matters who grants the degree (as far as I understand). So in their case, it only matters that they got their degree through Anna.

So is the institute name on your certificate a university?
(remember an institute can be recognized without being a university. Diploma granting institutes can be recognized to do just that, grant diplomas of good value).

i just checked that at the Top of my Diploma Cert. it states,

"Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies"
(through Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning)


on its website sims.edu/welcome_details.aspx
its mentioned that

Well the good thing is that yours is a deemed university.

I cannot say for 100% that masters diploma is equivalent to a masters degree but you should make the case that it is.
Here is how you do that:

1) To get 25 points, you must have a university educational credential at the master’s or doctoral level and at least 17
years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies.

- you should point out that yours is a university educational qualification.

2) Point out that in India, a lot of MBA's are called postgraduate diploma in management (as in IIM) but they are considered equivalent to MBA in the western world, even in Canada.

3) Yours is not just a postgraduate diploma but a masters diploma and hence it is a university educational credential at the master's level. Maybe you can even show that this is the requirement to get into a PhD program at the same university. Maybe even get a letter from Symbiosis to say that it is equivalent to a masters degree.

The above is what i will do if i needed the extra 5 points. But it is not assured that you will get the extra 5 points and sometimes, trying to prove it painstakingly can also be seen as a red flag. I would take that chance however if it were me but it is up to you to decide on the risk of how well you want to show it.
