2 week vacation outside of Canada during inland application and also work permit application

Hello all,

I'm asking on behalf of a friend.

He is a citizen of Canada, and his spouse has applied for PR via sponsorship from inland. She has also applied for Work Permit during her PR application period. Both applications were made about a month ago.

She is from a country with visa waivers, only requiring eTA (for a 6 month stay), so she does not have any particular visa, or requirements for that matter.

Now they want to go on a vacation for about 2 weeks to the U.S., and there's nothing clear that says yay or nay around this.

They asked me if they can travel, so I thought I'd ask folks in the forum if there are any experiences of this.

I've read other threads and the general trend seems to state that if it's short, it's okay, but most had a visa. She is on visa waiver, so I was wondering if there'd be any problems of re-entry.

Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

It should be okay. I know a friend who did it earlier and had no problems

I am also going on vacation to the US for 5 days. I called, and as much as I dont like quoting the people at IRCC Canada, they said everything was fine and I didnt even need Eta or Visa because I am a citizen of a Visa exempt country. You should be okay. If she does need an Eta, just make sure to secure one before you go on vacation!

Just keep in mind that if the spouse wont be allowed back in Canada the application will be cancelled and they will have to start again as Outland.
Nobody here can promise it wont happened. I guess they are taking risk (even if its a small one). And yes she will need her work permit or ETA

Based on your avatar, I'm assuming you're American. That's why you don't need an ETA. Everyone else from visa exempt countries does need one (ETA for visa exempt people, visas for those who aren't exempt).

Just clearing it up in case someone who's not American but is visa exempt thinks they also don't need an ETA.

Does anyone have direct experience travelling while waiting for your application to be processed?

I am going on a trip with my spouse very soon, for one week, and I was hoping someone had experience with travelling while waiting... I understand no one can make any guarantees, it all depends on the officers at the POE, but I would like to know what to expect. I don't have TRV since it's not required for me, I have an ETA. I submitted my application on the 14th of February, inland, and am still waiting for my AOR.

You can stay in the country for 6 months with an ETA, but how long before you are allowed to enter again? Does the 6 month period start over if I come back from my trip and enter the country without any issues?
