Hi i have heard that studying for 2 consecutive part time semesters may leads to Post Graduation Work Permit refusal. I checked the CIC website for eligibility conditions but nothing is stated about that.

Please send me the link where it is written.
Thanks.

Who can apply for a post-graduation work permit?
  • have continuously studied full-time in Canada in a study program at least eight months long

Studying part-time during the final academic session
If you meet all the requirements, but during your last academic session you studied part-time, you are still eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit.

Hi, thanks for your immediate response.

I am currently enrolled as part time student for the first time in school. I have studied continuously full time before. This is my last semester but because of pre-requisite condition i have last 2 courses to pick after this semester. So that will be my second part time semester. Do i have a risk of work permit refusal ?

Please advise me the best in this case.
Thanks.

I will stay full time for the last semester or enroll into more courses this semester if it's still an option. Having 2 part time semesters in a row will be way more risky than 2 random part time semesters. If you only go part time for one semester you should be safe.

I knew someone from my own experience as an international student before with somewhat almost the same scenario as yours.
She had to study part time due to a pre-requisite condition and one course is not offered because that was during a "Summer Semester."
And then on the last semester(FALL) she will be a part time again because she only need two more courses to finish the whole program.

What she did is took additional supplementary courses on that FALL semester just to make sure she will be a Full time student and eliminate the risk of being rejected for PGWP. I think its a logical move that to regret it later.

Thanks Patrick and Mcaranay for your advice.

Unfortunately i cannot register for more courses this semester as the deadline has passed.
Also, one of the 2 courses that i have to take is not available in Fall. They provided that course only 3 times in last 8 years.
I will definitely go Full time if they will provide it next semester as there are more students in my program who need to pick that course next semester.
Otherwise we will register in some other college for credit transfer. But then i will not be able to pick Full time load.

I went to the border with my degree completion letter and my offer to the university. I showed the officer my documents and he insisted on seeing my transcript. When I told him my final transcripts are not available yet ( which is true ), he said even the online ones from my student system is fine. So I logged into my student account using my phone and showed him my transcripts, he asked me if it was allowed to have those course loads for each semester and I said yes ( which is also legit ). He specifically asked me the 2 semesters I went part time. I told him there were all under the permission of my department and I have valid reasons. He then gave me 3 year PGWP.
Hi, I'm in the same situation, would you mind if I ask what were the valid reasons you told the officer about those 2 semesters that you went part time? Or did the officer not ask you to specify the valid reasons at all? I know your last post is from May, but if you can, your information will be so helpful to me.

You got lucky. The next border agent could have refused your PGWP. He was unfamiliar with the fact there are no reason you would be permitted to be a part-time student except during the last semester and still qualify for PGWP.

hey does anyone got approved being part time please reply
Hi I’m in the same situation as you I guess. I graduated from 4 year program and applied on May 18. I have 2 part time semesters with 8 creidts each (3+3+2). I registered three courses as usual but it turns out that one of them involved only 2 credit.
But that course involved 6 hours of study time per week which corresponds to 6 credit course usually. So during that time, I took 12 hours of study time per week which is more than full time.

So I wrote them in my letter of explanation and still waiting for result.

When did you apply?
