I am a US citizen married to a Canadian citizen. I just applied to extend my visitor status again and I'm waiting to get approved. I have been here since June 2017 and we got married in November. I paid the fees already for spiusas sponsorship and PR but have not sent the applications because I don't have my police certificate yet. I'm still waiting. Sent my fingerprints to the FBI in April. 2 questions.

1. Can I send the applications and then send in the police certificate later when I receive it or should I wait and send it all together?

2. My stepdad has cancer and is not well enough to travel. Can I leave Canada to visit once I've sent in my application without worrying about getting back into Canada?

I'm stressing over this stuff so much and I'd appreciate any advice you guys may have. Thanks!

1. No, the PCC is required upfront with the application as of February of this year. If you send in your application without it, it will be returned to you. As a point of reference, please make sure that all of your completed forms are done with the updated forms and checklist prior to you submitting them.

2. That depends upon which class you're applying under (outland or inland). If you're applying inland, then you are advised not to leave Canada during the processing of your application. If you're applying outland, then you can leave and re-enter Canada at a later time. Search this thread for "dual intent" and you'll see lots of threads pertaining to this. Most folks are able to re-enter Canada with no issues, provided the agent at the border does not believe you to be a risk for an overstay.

If you applied for it by paper, you may want to reapply for the FBI cert. I believe the online app is supposed to be pretty quick. Also, as an American, you have the option of applying through a chaneller, which takes only a week or so.
