Hi,

I am applying for study permit for Masters Course (2 Years, 30 Credits). But due to less number of credits, I may not get 3 years PGWP.

Can I complete this Masters degree in 1 Year and then join 1 Year Post Degree Diploma in a college, (coz my study permit will be valid for 2 years), to earn 30 more credits and make credit count as 60 (30 from Master + 30 from Post Degree Diploma)?

After completing my Masters, will I have to apply for study permit again before joining the Post Degree diploma or notify CHC that I have completed one course and going to study another one? will they allow me to do so?

No, you cannot.
But you can do that in an opposite order : first PG then Masters.
why not? PG then masters is the right progression but he can always do a masters and then PG if he has a study permit

If you depend on CIC , and wish to get PGWP and then PR, you should remember about their logic.
I donot understand what ur saying . what is stopping OP from getting a masters degree first and then PG diploma as long as his study permit is valid? OP is going for and hoping to get 2 years study permit and plans to finish both programs in these two years . ( i know this plan is ambitious but technically it could work).

There are written nothing about an odd (from CIC point of view) subsequence.
Just remember that CIC does not issue visas if a bachelor graduate in homeland tries to apply for 2yr diploma in Canada. They consider it is not in a line of studies. Here the same.

There could be exceptions but not in this case when both program are taken in Canada right one after another in such weird order.

Hi Regina,

I am talking about doing a "Post Degree Diploma" and its of 1 Year duration. I think it is very common for B.Tech passouts even with professional experience to go for 1 or 2 year Graduate diplomas and they get Visas. Dont they?

Even on the given link, if we see example 2: "A student who obtained a one-year diploma or certificate from a participating institution in Canada after having obtained a degree in Canada" at the same or in a different participating institution within the previous two years would be allowed to cumulate both educational credentials and therefore would be eligible for a three-year post-graduation work permit.

Yes the order of studies may be wierd. How about the below scenario...just exploring possibilities

I take a 2 Year study permit on the basis of a 2 Years Masters Degree (30 Credits) in British Columbia. But after Landing I change my program to 1 Year Post Degree diploma (30 Credits) in BC.

After completing this 1 year Post Degree diploma, I join a 30 credit Masters degree course and complete it within 1 year. Hence, I will be taking total of 60 Credits by completing two courses on a single 2 year work permit

Am I voilating any rule??

Will there be any problem in getting PGWP? What will be the duration of PGWP?

"A student who obtained a one-year diploma or certificate from a participating institution in Canada after having obtained a degree in Canada
This is EXACTLY what I AM TALKING. However, I think, sometimes it is difficult for non-Canadians to understand the difference between certificate/diploma and undergraduate/graduate degree.

usually:
Certificate = 1 year program
Diploma = 2 years program (could be 1 year certificate + second year)
bachelor DEGREE (undergraduate degree)= 3 or 4 years program (sometimes 5 yrs)
Post baccalaureate certificate(1 year) or diploma (2 years) (undergraduate degree0
masters degree (GRADUATE degree) = 1-1,5-2 years.

So in your quote they say you could get 1 year certificate/diploma of post -back diploma after you get your bachelor degree in Canada.

Just read about SP rejections on this forum. If a person with a bachelor degree from his/her home country applies for a 1 year certificate or 2 yrs diploma (not post-bacc), or if a person with masters apply for 2 year diploma - CIC rejects SP because "such a kind of order is out of line of person's previous education'.

This is their logic. And it does not differ if it is outside or inside of Canada.

ur failing to understand OP's question please read. OP is applying for visa/study permit based on an application to a masters degree of 2 years but will finish masters in 1 year and take up another 1 year PG course on the same study permit . this will get him 3years PGWP. (ofcourse there r flaws in this plan but if OP can pull it off it would work legally)
Also degree is degree it could be masters or bachelors both are degrees.

Tell that to CIC when it rejects application for PG in Canada after having masters at homeland.
u dont read do u? OP is applying for masters degree and is hoping to get study permit based on his bachelors in home country. SO its logical to go for masters after bachelors in his home country. I dont understand how much can I dumb it down further.

Yes you can do masters then PG or vice versa. Order doesn't matter

60 Credits will give you 3 years work permit.

Good luck .

How many years of PGWP did you get and did you do 1 years masters and 1 PG certificate ?
