I now have all the documents/experience I need at the moment.
Should I be worrying about getting another work permit (just in case if current one expires before the PR is approved) or am I worrying too much.

I suggest you apply right away for PR if everything is ready to go.
Around 2months (it varies) after filing your PR application, you receive an AOR.
With that AOR, you can apply for bridging open work permit without any LMO or job offer.
