My application began processing May 24th and I am so anxious as you all to get approved so I can put my 9 year old daughter in school here and get a job, but my son really wants to move with his dad and I already applied with him accompanying me to Canada. With school starting i would like to let him go now, but I am concerned it will slow my application down to change it.
Anybody know anything about changing this in Buffalo and how long it will set me back? Thank you for any help! ???

ps. I have a 9 year old and a 14 year old.

I wanted to ad that I think my son is going to be unhappy living with his dad and he will soon find that out once he has been there a couple months. I really want to leave the door open for a little bit so if he changes his mind he can come later. (dads, please don't be offended, I have good reasons for saying this)

This will slow your app down as when you have a child not coming with you is a different process than one coming with you.So this decision would have been way easier before.Your best to send a letter off to the embassy and let them decide how to do this.
They may send forms for you to sign saying he is not going to Canada. But if he changes his mind later on in life a year or two it may just slow his process to a crawl.Your best bet is to go through the process wait till he gets his PR then let him go back,a lot less problems.I know he may have to change schools half way through but who knows once he has made friends in a school here he might end up wanting to stay.So if it was me i would continue the process get it done get him landed tell him once he has landed and has his PR it is his decision what he wants to do.

I am a firm believer that children should stay with the mom until they get old enough to realize what they want.I have 2 girls from a previous marriage and i know there is nothing two little girls need more is their mother.I see them every second weekend and every holiday so its good.

kids change their minds all the time. I would keep on the same path and have him land with you. If at that point he still wants to live with his father he can try it for however long he wants, or until 3 years have passed and then he'll have to make up his mind to keep his PR.

I totally agree! You don't want to change anything at this point, it would be such a pain to stop it now, and then have to sponsor him later. Let him land here and get his PR, he can go back and forth until he knows for sure where he wants to live.

I agree. Don't change the application now. Have him land with you at least. He can go live with his dad while you are waiting for the visas, then come with you to Canada, land, and then go right back to his dad if he wants. This way if he does change his mind and wants to come to live with you after all, it will be easy - he'll already have his PR card and can just come up to Canada. If you change him to a non-accompanying child now, then if he changes his mind you will have a long process of sponsoring him.

That's a load of crap, it depends on the parent and the child. Just because you couldn't handle raising a child doesn't mean all men are incapable of it.

Why do you resort to schoolyard rhetoric so quickly? There are more reasonable (and better-reasoned) ways to make your point.

Congratulations! I'm very happy that the processing went so quickly. Hopefully your son will love Canada and you can all live together as a happy family!
