13 Years Study Gap

Hi!

I am 34 years old, and the school that has accepted me didn't ask for English proficiency test results like IELTS. I have not taken the IELTS exam. But I have a really long study gap. I graduated Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 2002. Should I take the IELTS exam?

2002 - graduated BS in Computer Engineering
2004 - opened an internet cafe business
2012 - opened a sound system rental business (with myself as the sound technician/engineer)

Now, the program that I'm going to take is Audio Engineering (one year diploma) which is in line with my job description in my own sound system business. Do you think the VO will consider my application as a student despite that I have a really long study gap?

Hi Floje, thanks for this new thread. I think it will be to your advantage if you'll take IELTS, me & my GF took IELTS last March 2013 but under General, if for Study, you need Academic which has a difference. My GF was also accepted in Keyano College, luckily did not ask for IELTS & was able to search that USC is exempted from IELTS requirements, it depends on the school maybe, but this where I found the exemption: http://digital.turn-page.com/i/343769 page 14.

If ur skul is not asking its fine. Just choose No from IMM1294 form where there is a question if u have taken some english test.

Hi tipsy, for me & my GF as stated, we took IELTS General last March 2013 & will expire March 2015, in the forms, we'll just tick No even though we had it 2 years ago? TIA

I dont think so that would be a ground for rejections. besides, maybe your school can issue a certification stating that the medium of instruction is english. Then its a proof that you are proficient in english. Just remember do not check the part in IMM1294 so that you wont waste the time of the visa officer searching your test result else he will get mad

Thanks again tipsy! Yes, both my high school and university issued me corresponding certificates that states that the medium of instruction is English. So I guess that would be enough.

ok na yan. Ako I have 14yrs study gap. I worked kaya may study gap. gumagawa ako ng very strong SOP. tapos mahina pa home ties ko sa pinas since nsa abroad ako now.

hopefully maconvince ko cla since may US and canada visit visa naman na ko... hay. sa monday magsubmit ako thru online. lets see.

Ganun po ba tipsy? Pero at least sa 14 years na study gap mo, eh nagwowork ka. Ako, yung gap ko, hindi ko nagamit yung degree ko ng computer engineering kase nag business ako. Sabagay, di rin naman in line yung kukunin kong program sa degree ko. In line lang sya sa other business ko.

Anyway, good luck sa inyo tipsy! Ako, maybe sa June pa ako magsusubmit ng application.
