1094 days for citizenship is very particular? or will they consider me?

Hi All,

I am very new to this forum as I am really looking for someone to share their view for my case? I am here on PR since Dec 2011 but I went to my home country in July 2012 and stayed until Jan 2013 and again from April 13- Jan 2014 as my father was seriously ill and died later due to the sickness. So I am short by 3 months for applying for citizenship next December. You think will they consider my case if I produce the documents for the shortage of 3 months or it's 'NO WAY'?

Also, since I am technically eligible for Dec 2015, will I have to consider the new rule of 4/6 years with at least 183 days per year of those 4 years?
Please, I really appreciate your views?

If you technically qualify for canadian citizenship under the old 3 out of 4 years in Dec 2015, chances are you will fall under the new 4 out of 6 years when it supposedly go into effect in june-july 2015.

No - they won't consider your case with a shortage of three months. You need to meet the residency requirement to the day.

As screech said, if you are applying December 2015 then you will fall under the 4 out of 6 year rule (not 3 out of 4).

But we need to stay 183 days min for each of 4 those years out of 6 years right? I hope those 4 years are not consecutive? Since I have to stay in my home country for 3-4 months every years during coming years too..

It just mean that you must accumulate at least minimum 1460 days over the 6 year period prior to submitting your application.

If you EXACTLY go for 4 months every year (day count would depend on which exact months though) then you'll be fine. 4 months x 6 years = 24 months = 2 years out of the country from a total of 6 years. So 4 out of 6 in Canada, so you would be good to go I guess. The frequent long-stays out of country however might eventually trigger an RQ down the line when you actually apply.

So yes if you intend to stretch out the minimum over 6 year that you can be out of Canada 4 months a year.
