Hello, I am in a weird situation.

I applied for the 1 year certificate in general studies, which I believe is a 2 semester program in which my plan is to study for 1 year, get a PGWP for 1 year, work for one year, and then apply to PR.
However, i found this segment here on the official government website.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp

more than eight months but less than two years
  • your PGWP may be valid for up to the same length as your study program (for example, if you studied for nine months, a work permit may be issued for up to nine months)

What I am wondering if if the 1 year certificate will be able to get me a 1 year duration of PGWP, as I believe that is the duration you need in order to apply to PR successfully in the future.

If anyone can confirm or have any idea on how this works, I would very much appreciate it, thank you!

If your course is stated as a one year course and you get a completion letter you can then apply for a PGWP and will probably get a one year PGWP, never any guarantees.

Your challenge will be to get a full year Canadian experience given with a one year PGWP you will need to start full time work almost from the day you apply for your PGWP which is why many people try hard for 2 year courses.

The main thing I'm worried about it is the program being '2 semesters of study' which is technically only 8 months of study. Perhaps I am overthinking this.

Do I have to start working full time from the moment I apply, or the moment I receive the pgwp? B/c I don’t' think I can work full time without a pgwp. Thank you.

Any updates on this? Did you get 8 month or 1 year PGWP?

Hello,

I am in the awkward situation. I took 1 year certificate course and I passed it. However with 1 course I passed it with 50 % now the graduation requirement for this course is 60% and I am retaking the course. This is the regular course, but I want to complete it in one month for the sake of getting program completion verification. Would there be any issue in PGWP if I am accelerating the course since my study permit is also expiring. Could any one answer please ?

Why did you get 50% only?

I don know may be they didn't want me to pass the course :D. And I have also done my second course in humber for 1 year in Web Design and Development(2023). I passed that with 80%. But with this previous college, they are asking me to fulfill the program completion requirement (which is 60%) otherwise they wont give me graduation degree certificate. Which is ofcourse needed to apply for PGWP.

Maybe you should check this with an actual immigration professional? I can recommend you one I know my friend used, a 20 minute consult should help you figure that out! Let me know
