Hey guys,
I am an international student, registered for a university in BC for fall 2019 semester. Since I couldn’t get my visa approval before the visa confirmation deadline, I had to defer my intake to winter 2020 semester. After I got my visa, I arrived to Canada and got my study permit and my husband also got the open work permit (valid from 12/09/2019).
Since our friends are in Alberta, we came to Ab and my husband got a job also. Now we are settled down here and I don’t like to go back to BC. So I thought to change my institute (DLI).
We are in a small city and there is only one college. When I went there, they told me to get IQAS first. I applied for IQAS, but it will take few months for the assessment and I won’t be able to register for the winter 2020 semester in new college.
I can’t go back to BC. What happens if I didn’t attend the university in January?:(Please advice me!!!

If you become a no show without for example informing the institution there is a possibility they will inform IRCC to cancel your study permit . That of course could also happen even if you inform them given you would not be in full time study or enrolled in a new college.

I am not sure but I think validity of study permit starts the day you start studying on a study permit and not when you get the study permit. Your husband , if tied to your study permit , can only start working when you start studying. I may be wrong but do check this aspect , otherwise your husband would be doing illegal work.

Changing DLI may not be much of a problem but you need to inform the IRCC.
