A friend is applying for a Canadian visitor visa from the UK. The person has a UK study permit expiring in about 3 months. I would like to know if someone in a similar was able to get a visitor visa. Does it make sense to apply for the visa now or wait till the UK permit is extended by 2 years?

I'll be doing soft landing in December to return after 6 - 15 months. Please, what are the things I should sort out within my short stay? Is it advisable to open a checking bank account, and get a phone plan to be able to access internet when I'm outside?
