Even i got admit without contacting a professor, but it is very rare. It is more advisable to contact a professor to be on a safe side or else professors have to pick a file from a pool of applicants(which can prolong the wait , matters on luck and need a very strong profile ).

I never contacted a professor, got recommended by department in 10 days.Applied on 6 Jan for MEng ECE. Hope for best!!

Hey I think it is department recommendation, now ur file is transferred to the graduate records . They wud give u conditional offer as soon as they process it. It took around 1-2 weeks for most applicants who got admit.

Alberta is a tier 2/3 university , shud not be problem getting in.
