Thread For applications Through SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA) Office

Hi all - Wanted to draw some attention to the fact that the IEC has recently changed its stance on IEC visas for Australians. Looks like this was updated on Friday. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/index.asp?country=au&cat=wh "Note: As an Australian citizen, you may participate in the...

No kidding. As much as I'd love to see my card turn up today, we're not exactly sweating over this part of the process.

Thought we could provide some insight on how our application was organized - we owe so much to this forum for helping us with this process, so we thought we should add some info on what worked for us! FYI we are a couple that share the "torvic" account - M (Canadian woman) and A (Australian man...

Congrats! Very good to hear. Funny you mention the visa waiver. I pulled mine out before we crossed over, just to avoid any issues regarding that whole "must be given up when you leave" nonsense. Everything's done on computers nowadays, I don't see why that stupid bit of paper matters. Ah well...

Well everyone, we went down to the Rainbow Bridge this morning and landed within about an hour of crossing over the US border. I left home a temporary resident, and I return a permanent one! Feels great to not have to worry about applying for a new visa or waiting for the CIC to update us...

That's good to know. I was always under the impression that you had to do it before you travel, but in that case, I'll go just with my passport and tell them we want to flagpoll and will hopefully just get charged whatever they make you pay for that.

Oh, so you can just do it at the border if need be?

Oh I think I read that already. We're in Toronto, so it'll be the Rainbow Bridge. Are you going to get an ESTA visa, or is it totally unnecessary if we're flagpolling?

Wicked! Congratulations to you as well. It was 86 days from sending the application to receiving the COPR in the mail for us. CIC website still says decision made. You guys should post your timelines on this spreadsheet...

I'm so glad we chose Sydney over Ottawa. Big thanks to Catou and mitchb86 for steering us in that direction before we applied. If we sent it to Ottawa, I'm sure we wouldn't have this thing for another 12 months.

It seems like that! We're thinking it HAS to be some time this week. Each day around this time I get excited about what might be waiting for us when we get home from work. Only an hour and a half until we know if today is the day...

Yeah flag polling is easy. We've done that once with an IEC. Sounds like benji is currently in Canada – as are we. You are the odd one out, style!

All I wrote in the bottom part was N/A. I emailed them this evening to make sure that that was okay, and they just emailed back to say my COPR was sent in the mail yesterday. Happy days.
