My husband has been living and working in Canada for 10 years. He meets all the requirements for citizenship.
Including speaking and listening requirements.
He can't read English well enough to study or take the test.
So even if he listens to the audio study material, he wouldn't be able to read...
Hello,
My husband has been a PR, living and working in Canada for 6 years. He is from Thailand and although fluent in speaking and listening in English, can barely read and write it. Does that mean he can't ever take the test? He knows other Thais with even lower language skills than he has...
I don't know what to do.
Husband's PR card expired in May. We sent off the application on April 26th. We are travelling on August 19th. Watching processing times, we resubmitted an urgent process this past Tuesday. He is still not in the system. We have to return on September 10th from Thailand...
Husband's PR card expires May 15. We want to go to the States and have yet to submit his renewal application (no idea it would take 5 months to process!). If we are back before the 15th will there be an issue? Like could we return May 14th without problem? I know some countries do not allow you...
Bev,
My Thai husband and I did not hear a peep from Singapore, nor was the website every updated past "in progress" until we received the letter in the mail with the Passport request. This was 2 years ago but hopefully no news is good news.
The "forever" post was hypothetical. Obvs if he was going to stay forever he would apply for citizenship. He does not necessarily want to stay forever. and as I said I just want to know what the alternatives are.
Hmmm, OK. I guess I don't really know what I mean.
Basically his PR card expires in 5 years right? So what happens after that if he doesnt go for citizenship?
I don't know if my husband will go for citizenship due to the fact that he is just learning to read and write English.
Therefore I would like to know how does a PR renew his status. More specifically when does he have to do it by and how long does it usually take. Do we need to go through the...
Thanks for the reply. But doesnt it say on the sponsorship agreement that the person you are sponsoring cannot apply for government support (like welfare), and if they do the sponsor will be charged for the amount that was given?
My husband is a painter and will probably be out of work for a month or two during the winter. He has only been a PR for 10 months. I am assuming that PR's cannot collect Employment insurance because as his sponsor I am required to support him for three years. Is this correct? He has been making...
Hi again,
Haven't been on here for a while!
My husband received his PRV and landed in April. Is there anything that needs to be done between now and when it expires?
Do we basically have the choice of applying for citizenship or renewing his PRV in 5 years?
I would be interested in any stories...
Hi,
my husband landed on April 12th and we stilll have not recieved his PR card. gov website says it takes 30 days. Our address has not changed... Should we investigate. Of course I tried getting through to the call centre and of course I could not so thought I'd post here.
Thanks
My husband's passport took 12 days including sat and sun to go from Canada to Singapore and back to Canada. Sent it on a Wednesday, arrived on the following Monday in Singapore and then we recieved it back the Monday after that.
